Too lazy to find all the other links to threads discussing this topic. He and the rest of the cast are contracted through November. Exact date is not confirmed, but it seems like it would be either November 12th or 19th. Extension is possible, but don't count on it.

Until his voice has been Ripleyed.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Definitely no extension

Assuming he wins the Tony, they will throw big bucks at him to keep him in for another six months or so. But it will take big bucks.

He got a Sardi's portrait today and he's so handsome!

The kid doesn't need money. I'm sure he's exhausted and ready to go.

Very frustrated because I have tickets for November 25th!! No other date works for me, I'm still going to go but would have loved to see him in it! I live in D.C. But missed it at Arena and couldn't get tickets for my trip to NYC this month. Fingers crossed the date is after that!

Perhaps they could convince him to stay through the holidays (sort of what Wicked did with Idina), but I got a strong impression from his responses on that THR actors' roundtable that a year on Broadway will be enough. I can't blame him--in addition to all the awards craziness and all the talk shows he's already done, he was on Colbert last week and The View this week--they're killing this poor kid!

You're right about all of those things, of course, and I have no idea exactly how rich Ben himself actually is, but I think even the child of Hollywood royalty wouldn't immediately say no to a couple of million for an additional six months. Even as bright as his current career arc appears to be, he may not have access to that kind of money yet, so it really may depend on exactly how burned out he really is. I'm thinking that he may stop doing Wednesday and Saturday matinees-- that will give them a chance to build some buzz for his replacement while still being white hot at the box office with him still performing. Of course, he could already have a movie or tv offer that trumps anything the producers could offer, either from a financial or career advancement perspective.

This guy is going to hurt himself. 8 shows a week in a role such as this is damaging.

Extension ain't happening

I saw him in DEH in January and his performance was one of the best I've ever seen on Broadway. Now I live in Texas and only get to New York every other year since 2003 so my I havent seen as many shows as most, but I saw 10 last time. But I am coming back in Sept to see Hamilton and Hello Dolly and 4 more and I talked my sister who is my traveling companion into seeing DEH again but a Wed matinee was the only spot left so I pray he is still doing matinees then.

To the people who think an extension would be justified by money: The compensation Platt is going to get from his future projects will make anything the production could offer look like chump change.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I'm guessing it will be much like the HAMILTON original cast. They were all in pretty high demand after the Tony's. I imagine he will be too.

Didn't it say in the NYT profile his contract expires in November?

#20

Ben Platt

He's a young man who takes care of his body, mind and soul. The NYT article about him was great. I think he will be just fine. Thousands of other actors have had challenging leading roles and were all good. Some of you are talking like this kid is suffering. Doubtful.

He has said multiple times, in multiple ways that his contract ends in November. At the stage door the other day my friend said he told a few fans "I'll be right here until November!" because they expressed wanting to come back and see him again. So, safe to say November I suppose.

I'm new to this, so will it not be known until around November who will be replacing him or will that information be out sooner?? Gonna go regardless

If you can find tickets for an earlier date (before mid-November), I believe Telecharge will do an exchange.
