LuPone for "Woman on the Verge..."? Hell, Benanti too!
Ugh!!! So bummed. I was really looking forward to the show!
Even if it sucked?
I'm actually kind of glad the show wasn't picked up. I didn't want to lose them to the West Coast for that long!

I heard this pilot took forever to film because Patti kept yelling at the camera crew: "Stop taking pictures!"
The correct term is LuPonista, thankyouverymuch.

Too bad. She's wanted a sitcom for years. But yes, I hope it means she'll be in VERGE.

Patti is not going to share the stage with Jessica Biel.

Maybe it'll be retitled "Women On the Verge of Pushing Jessica Biel Into the Orchestra Pit."

Hopefully the pilot will pop up somewhere at least.
Jordan, the premise of the show is in the linked playbill article.

Wasn't it the further adventures of Rose and Louise?

Patti's role was a loud mouthed, overbearing mother. It was going to be a stretch for her as an actress.
I don't think Patti LuPone would ever end up on a sitcom because she can't be the star in a sit-com, which she would want to be. She would need to be the star's mother or a neighbor, something along the lines of Valerie Cherish's "Aunt Sassy". I don't think she'd go for that. She has let herself go too much to ever star on network TV, other than maybe a Lifetime movie.
^ which is why she played the main character's mother in a pilot?
Maybe she can do a "Life Goes On" Reunion movie for Oxygen.
She yelled "who do you think you are?" to the director.
She o-preciates that!

OMG, I love you for stating it like that - what a perfect picture that draws in my mind.

Didn't hurt Roseanne. Perhaps the show didn't get picked up because it wasn't any good.
Roseanne was the show, thus it worked. If they did a show called "Patti" based on her persona, it would work. However, casting Patti is another story. Men on TV get free passes all the time-they can be schlubs and get shows. Have you ever looked at the wives of all those TV slobs? They are gorgeous. Even older women on TV, like Jean Smart, have to be attractive unless they are a character actress. I don't think Patti views herself as a character actress. I think she feels she is very sexy-nothing wrong with that, but TV execs would beg to differ.

TV is a very nice, consistent paycheck.
As the run of GYPSY was ending, I recall her saying she'd like to be on a sitcom. She did a pilot, with her as the lead a couple years back, but it wasn't picked up.
She also said she isn't sure how she's gonna follow-up Rose as far as stage work - which is fair.
