There’s talk that it’s coming to Broadway, has anyone heard this?

They’re doing sit down engagements in other cities. Brian Quijada is also doing  Latin History for Morons at Signature after that.

No plans for Broadway at this time

Dang, I would’ve loved to have seen Brian as Usnavi in In The Heights at City Center

Sad to hear it.  It’s miles better than any new musical from the last FEW Broadway seasons.

It's coming to the ART in Boston, too, for about 3-4 weeks. (Dec-Jan)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It was not selling as well in its second run. The awards were there but not the general public appetite.

I missed it, I could have sworn it was closing in July so I feel bad, and now I need it to move uptown.

But that’s because off broadway is nearly impossible to successfully do commercial theater.  I wonder if they have intentions to come to Broadway anyway, Titanique did, and they weren’t selling well at the end.

The early part of the run was hot for a second, then a bit saggy. (They were able to capitalize on the acclaim from last fall.) Once they started cleaning up off Broadway awards, it because an extremely hot ticket again, to the point where the last 2-3 weeks were all but impossible to get for less than $189.

I know the guys would love a Broadway run if it’s in the cards. (I personally think it would be great for the Music Box). If they do, the best strategy might be opening at the end of the season just before the Tony nominations since they wouldn’t be eligible for the undercard awards and so the closer they are to the big prize recognition, that would be a catalyst for an acclaimed run

It's coming to Chicago for a few weeks in November.

Wait... so you didn't hear anything about this moving to Broadway? Even when it had a previously announced regional tour engagement after it's OB run?

I'm just here so I don't get fined

Probably the Booth Theater would be best for it, definitely a Spring opening.  But it’s already getting competitive in the new musical category with shows like Black Swan, Wanted, Galileo, Paddington, Wild Rose, The Heart

I heard it was trying to come to Broadway and I hope it does.

I would've loved to have seen both Brian and Nygel as Usnavi & Benny in IN THE HEIGHTS at New York City Center

This is the only thing I could see giving Paddington a run for its money. If this came in I could see a world where it swoops in for Best Score/Book with Paddington still taking top prize.

Exactly.   It's been papered off Broadway and is going to tour.  It's not Broadway bound - it tried commercial off-Broadway.

Warriors is winning all three easily if it comes this season.

Yea this is a Paddington vs Warriors vs Whatever the big surprise of the fall is (could it be Wanted?). Mexodus is good (though not as good as everyone's making it out to be) but it doesn't make sense on Broadway.

Commercial off broadway isn’t really a thing, any producer who thinks so is highly misguided.  Yes I know there have been a few rare exceptions.

Titanique and dead outlaw come to Broadway after not selling off Broadway.  Again, producers don’t bring their shows to Broadway thinking they will make money from any Broadway run.

I should know better than to feed the troll, but I haven’t gotten around to blocking yet, so here goes.

TITANIQUE ran off Broadway for over a thousand performances. While it may not have made money, it lasted long enough to bolster the brand and lay the groundwork for international productions. DEAD OUTLAW was produced in partnership with Audible and, like many shows there (including  MEXODUS), a slow start turned into a full fledged, sold out hit by the end of the run.

To say commercial off-Broadway isn’t a thing is also highly misguided. In recent years, you have HEATHERS, SPELLING BEE, and most notably LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS all having successful ongoing commercial runs. Hell, all of New World Stages are, to one extent or another, successful commercial runs.
