Oh my lord Barbara Cook please
Any more rumors?
I think Ann-Margret would be smashing as Carlotta. Her "I'm Still Here" would surprise people the way her Streetcar did.
Have you heard Ann-Marget sing lately? On that recording of Whorehouse she did almost 10 years ago, under the most flattering of recording situations, she sounds like an asthmatic ghost.
And that version of Streetcar was 26 years ago.
I adore her for what she did and was, but she's a very, very, very old and frail creature now...
I personally think Ann-Margret would be better as Hattie or even Solange. I still want Raquel Welch as Carlotta!
Poor, poor, very, very, very old and frail Ann-Margret! Poor thing!
I wonder if we'll finally get Stritch's Hattie in a full scale production? If that does happen, I sense there will be some disappointment.
Having just seen Night Music, I would be ecstatic to see Peters & Stritch in the same production yet again.
Just a heads up for those of you planning on seeing this (and who wouldn't want to!) -- I did a group ticket order today (20 tickets and up) and orchestra is already very close to sold out for a number of performances. The Kennedy Center is expecting the run to be close to being sold out by the time single seats go on sale in January. I would highly recommend you pool your friends and take advantage of the group sale advance availability and discount and get your seats now.
I don't think she's a great actress, but I wonder if Kim Basinger could be a good Carlotta with the right direction.

I've always pictured Rebecca De Mornay as Phyllis (though I like the choice of Cattrall), but maybe she'd make a good Carlotta.

Does anyone know why the evening performance on May 14 is not available for sale to subscribers?
I'm thinking of becomign a subscriber in order to secure tickets to this. You need to purchase tickets to three performances and we had planned on attending both performances on May 14, and then I would just buy tickets to a third performance of Follies and sell them to someone for face value. However, they are not offering the May 14 evening performance for sale. Anyone know why?
Perhaps its their opening? Mind you, I haven't checked and I'm too lazy to do so.
Huffington Post article about the upcoming DC production, but including a clip of Ann Miller's I'm Still Here from the Paper Mill Playhouse production and two clips of the rehearsal for the original Broadway production.

^ his casting ideas are awful. Though I think Tyne Daly
would be a perfect Stella!!
Dame Edna as Carlotta
Imagine a Great Performances telecast of Follies with the following cast
Must I?
Lane as Buddy would be such a disaster. I guess he missed the memo that Burstein is playing Buddy.
And why in the world would Patinkin would take the tiny role of Roscoe? He probably still wants to play Buddy.
I wonder if Chita Rivera would ever take the small role of Solange? She is arguably more appropriate for Solange than Hattie.

In 2009, Maury Yeston's Nine did wonders to broaden and revitalize the original stage version.
