DANNY BURSTEIN AS BUDDY!!!!!!! Truly amazing cast so far!
In the article I just read, right here on BWW, the headline reads Gurwin, but the article lists Danny Burstein for Buddy.
Edit: It's been fixed.
Hooray! I'll be making a trip down to DC next year.
Normally I hate being stuck here in the nation's capital away from my beloved Broadway, but now I'm truly happy to be living in DC!
Danny Burstein will be a great Buddy. This has the potential to be amazing!

For some reason, there seems to be an unwritten rule that Carlotta should be cast by someone who was practically alive when the Follies actually existed (Polly Bergen, Ann Miller, Stritch in London a few years ago). I really hope they don't go that route.
I think this is inspired casting.
I really like the Dossett idea, but the Peters/Burstein pairing (even though she looks good and he looks old) seems off kilter; and am I the only one who thinks Cattrall may be too vulgar for "Ice Queen" Phyllis?
I thought Danny Burstein was under contract to do Women On The Verge?
which closes in January. Follies is in May.
Cattrall (aside from her character of Samantha on SATC) isn't vulgar at all actually.
I can't wait for this! My birthday is on May 7th and what a wonderful birthday present this will be!

If you want to see Cattrall do icy, check out her performance in The Ghost Writer.
jacobtsf - thanks; originally Women on the Verge was posted as open-ended, but I see it's now posted as a limited run. Look forward to seeing Danny Burstein twice!
Check out this piece written by Peter Marks, the theatre critic from the Washington Post.

Olivia Williams out-ices. But for someone I never thought of as playing my favorite character in the musical canon, the Cattrall news really intrigues me.
Wow! What a cast! I love it!
wooot love that i live in dc ,next spring is gonna be great '=)
With principle casting like this, each announcement of the featured characters is going to be like a tasty little morsel until next May! I partly (and greedily) want to know them all at once but also wouldn't mind them being released one-by-one leading up to ticket sales in January...
Cannot. Wait.
Now...as for Carlotta...here's an off-beat suggestion. What about Lesley Ann Warren. She's definitely not 'hard'...but there's something about her that seems so right, in many other ways. She scored on Broadway, moved to the movies and achieved some success while relatively young...then, kinda faded away a bit. She's also younger than the Jurrasics that usually play the part, has a great sexiness for the part and would make the song a moment of triumph instead of the funereal dirge some turn it into.
"Is anyone else a little worried about Catrrall? I don't know much about her. Does she have stage experience?"
It has to be said that Catrall is nothing if not ambitious. She has done Whose Life is it Anyway and Private Lives in the West End and The Cryptogram at the Donmar.
I'm seeing her next month in Anthony and Cleopatra in Liverpool.
However, ambition does not equal delivery.
It also has to be said that she advertised tea bags on British television but we don't really want to go there, do we?!

I'd love to see Raquel Welch play Carlotta!
Cattrall was receiving quite a lot of buzz for what is being described as a revelatory turn in "Meet Monica Velour" which played the Tribeca Film Festival back in April in which she played an "aging erotic starlet."
I have no qualms about her acting chops, now we'll just have to see if she'll be a dancing Phyllis or an "Ah, But Underneath" Phyllis.
How much would they have to pay (or barter-promise) LuPone to play Carlotta? #inyourdreams
What a wonderful life Bernadette Peters has...despite her husband getting killed a few years ago.
As a "Favor" she plays one of the greatest roles EVER written for a woman in Musical Theatre...only to get to play another! If only we all could do 'favors' like that!
I think LuPone would be even better as Stella than as Carlotta. People here always seem to insinuate that LuPone would never take supporting roles and I don't understand why they say this. She's played supporting roles throughout her career. If she was willing to play Yvonne in the Ravinia SUNDAY IN THE PARK, I don't see why she wouldn't take one of the supporting roles in FOLLIES.

Knowning that there is some animosity between LuPone and Peters, I highly doubt Patti would take supporting in this case.
I want Donna McKechnie as either Stella or Carlotta. Who do I have to sleep with to make this happen?
Whenever Follies is discussed, I (and others) suggest Kathy Bates for Stella. Since this is a limited engagement, I guess it could be possible?
