"... when I got to do GYPSY for OVER A YEAR on Broadway..."
Ouch! I'm sure it wasn't an intentional dig on Arthur's production, but the truth hurts!
ALSO: Mary Tyler Moore as the Narrator in a recreation of the Opening from ITW at her concert? I wonder how/what/who?

I really really like it that she seems satisfied with being Rose, I hope she looks at it as a highlight of her career (well publicly obviously she is).
Though talking about being 'smart', the question was about originating roles not reviving them :P. And the quote about "play with music" sounds familiar, is it a common way to describe Gypsy? Either she or Patti have described it that way before (Maybe someone else and they both got it off her).
She looks ridiculously good.
Yay watches DEXTER.
OMG ASKED ABOUT MRS LOVETT!!!!
YES SHE WOULD!!!
W00t!!!!!!!!
What is "that one song" though? Worst Pies in London?
omg *dies of heart attack*, she is actually singing something new in one of her concerts?

LOL. I thought she said "A year and a half" (Maybe she said both). But still :P.

Describing something as a "play with music" isn't uncommon. There are plays with music (Souvenir comes to mind) and some people may describe a musical as more of a play with music (I would say, of the recent Broadway shows, Jersey Boys would fall into that description).
And technically, she originated the role of Rose in the Sam Mendes production of Gypsy.
I would personally love to see her Mrs. Lovett. Too soon for another revival? In a couple years maybe? I mean, La Cage is being redone already...

Now wouldn't THAT be the best irony. A Peters Mrs. Lovett on Broadway just a few years after LuPone's production...
That interview was darling. She looks fantastic and is always charming. Not surprising to see so much fondness towards SUNDAY IN THE PARK in her answers.
