How can we not complete the Carrie excitement on BWW with once again suggesting Bernadette Peters for every role. (oh and obligatory mentioning she was robbed for the Tony)
I'm not COMPLETELY joking, Bernadette's 'kewpie-doll trademarks' would make her performance ironically scary, and what she does best (her vulnerability) would be touching through "evening prayers" and "When there's no one" < can you just imagine that?
Her belt is a little more aged and piercing now but how appropriate is this for "And Eve was Weak"?
She's probably going to be busy with Sally Durant for quite a while.
I think it would a be a great departure for Bernadette as long as she could really nail the creepiness. Lord knows shes got the hair for some teased out Piper Laurie madness. I can totally see it. Give her a pasty pale complexion and some goth makeup and she could nail that part.
I'm on board, especially with the Piper Laurie hair.

BRILLIANT.
But I'd still like to see Marin do it, she was excellent at the reading
Too bad Carol Channing is no longer with us.
I thought Marin was OK but not great
I think they should just bring Betty back to do the role
^ Or how about casting someone new that doesn't have a "whiff" of the old one about them? The key thing in reestablishing a flop is to drop any connection with the flop part of it. And while I'm sure it's better to be a hit in a turkey than a turkey in a hit, especially for a performer of the caliber of Betty Buckley, why stick in any cast member who would immediately remind people of the massacre that the original production turned into?
Because Betty was the best thing about CARRIE, gvendo2005. And she can still do it.
I agree that Betty made that role and the show memorible
I think she would be fantastic in that role again.
I think it's time for some new blood.
What about Alice Ripley? (Or is that just type casting?)
Barbara Walsh, anyone? She would KILL.
Kill, what? The show?
In all seriousness though, if Buckley won't do it this part SCREAMS LuPone. I love Marin more than life itself but c'mon. Patti as Margaret in CARRIE? The gays would have a stroke it would be so perfect.
I love the Barbara Walsh idea. If we're going to go with younger, I'd love to see what Beth Leavel does with the role. I'd love to see her do something a little more, shall we say, serious?
Betty Buckley was a hit in a turkey, so what? So was Mandy Gonzalez in DOTV, and you don't see them casting her in readings for the new English translation.

I think Donna Murphy could be a wonderful Margaret.
Mandy Gonzales was a hit in DOTV?
That was a joke right?
