No, that would be her understudy/understudies.

And the show tends to be slower Tuesday-Thursday then pick up Friday-Sunday, so the only real way to tell how it is doing is looking at the grosses rather than picking any individual performance. Unless things are about to get challenging (I haven't really looked), it really has been doing consistently fine. For almost 3 months.

I agree. But I don’t think anyone was suggesting otherwise. It just did gangbusters business during the holiday .

I don't remember her getting one the night I saw her and I thought she was lovely in the role. Additionally, Ethel Merman never got a standing ovation after the title song the 4 times I saw her in the role. As we a know these days, standing ovations are usually for the audience member who shelved out premium prices for a ticket and wants to make their night a night THEY will never forget. I love this production and I have never stood after the Dolly number-Ms. Midler included.
I enjoyed Midler and Murphy more than Ms. Peters myself but the show is still worth going to and to be enjoyed.

I stood because I felt like doing so. I felt it was ovation worthy. Not because I paid premium prices. How silly. Is your ass to big to get out of a seat quickly? Just wondering.
Well, if my post was silly, I'll accept that. And your post was just plain mean.

Couple of points.
1. ABSOLUTELY agree with your basic premise. Standing ovations and 'whooping' have become a joke, particularly SOs. I remember the days when your hands could hurt so much just from applauding something great; when a SO occurred, it was a rarity and memorable. It meant something...not anymore. I refer to this as 'The American Idolization of America', which is not as bad as 'The Apprenticization of America', but still sucks.
2. I actually thought that Ethel Merman was one of the worst Dollys I ever saw. To me, she stood center stage, sang her songs, and went through the motions in all other respects. Naturally, she was the only Dolly that I saw in the original run who received a SO...because she was Ethel Merman, not because she was better than anyone else in the role.
3. I have not seen BP yet...I hope to see her in early June. Am expecting to love her in the role...will be disappointed if I do not. Who knows, maybe a curtain call SO -- which will clearly occur -- will even be deserved.

I wasn’t going for mean- it was a attempt at humor. I am so sorry if I offended you. I have a big ass as well.
I have to chime in and say that college kids and high school kids love Bernadette Peters because many of them grew up watching her in Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park with George on PBS. Both of those recordings are on Youtube and are adored by younger people. I got chewed out for saying this once already, but Bernadette Peters is probably more well known and loved by 25 and under than Bette Midler is. Of course there are many young people who love Bette Midler, but I have discovered that Peters is the most popular diva among the young theatre crowd. I was actually surprised when I returned to the show to see Bernadette how many young people were in the audience compared to how many were in the audience during Bette's run. I think that Peters is just a bit more familiar to the younger crowd than Bette is.

Interesting pivot int he conversation there GD. I saw plenty of young people all the times I saw Bette and Donna. Bernadette may hold a place in the heart of some niche group of teenagers that love broadway. But the majority of younger adults would be more familiar with Bette on Hocus Pocus alone. The comparison in these two names as a attraction is unfair. Bette is a megastar. She can sell out multiple dates in arenas and venues. Bernadette is a broadway star. She has a good following and can sell out The Crown and Anchor in P Town with a discount code. And having said all that; the majority of the audience for Dolly remains older.
How far in advance would they typically announce a new Dolly or a extension?

Interesting. I was going to sign up for Amazon Prime just to start watching Mozart. I knew about the show but didn't want to pay the membership fee, even as I do shop from Amazon frequently.
I wonder if she will extend in Hello, Dolly. Or just stop and continue with her concerts. The last concert of hers I attended was in Newark, Nov 2016
