Posted: 8/18/04 at 5:15pmI'm probably going to get killed or ripped apart for this post but I'm definitely not a huge bob fosse fan...therefore I have to say of the past robbins definitely and of current stroman

All I can think of while reading this discussion is that scene in "The Birdcage" when Robin Williams does his History of dance/choreography --

Twyla Twyla
Madonna Madonna..."

Fosse and Robbins were the kings.
Ann Reinking did a good job with adapting Fosse's classic choreography with the Revival of Chicago, you can still feel and enjoy his style with the show.

Ribbins is the best of the past
Mitchell and the Marshalls are my favourites of the present. For some reason I don't really like Storman's choreography...then again I never saw Contast...only Oklahoma and Producers, but those two I wasn't a big fan of the dancing.

I enjoy the works of Bob Fosse, Susan Stroman, Jerry Mitchell...
they're are others here but those are the top 3 in my book. Wayne Cilento - liked his work on AIDA
Susan Stroman - I haven't seen THE PRODUCERS but I believe she did a heck of a job on one of her earlier works - CRAZY FOR YOU! CONTACT was good! Her choreography for MSG's A Christmas Carol was wonderful as well!
Anthony Van Laast- ?? Um......i think anyone, if not a real dancer, can pull off his work. MAMMA MIA! choreography i think ANYONE can do! I'm not too thrilled about his work.
And.....can I add - Jerry Mitchell is a fine looking choreographer! Haha.

Fosse (Chicago; H2$; Sweet Charity)
Robbins (I mean they both had shows named after them lol)
Michael Kidd (Guys and Dolls)
Agnes de Mille (Oklahoma)
Gower Champion (42nd Street)
Onna White (The Music Man)
^old
Rob and Kathleen Marshall (Chicago, Damn Yankees, Wonderful Town)
Jerry Mitchell (Never Gonna Dance; Hairspray)
Wayne Cliento (he's alright, not the best)
Susan Stroman (she's alright too)
I think those really left and will leave an impression

Posted: 8/18/04 at 10:01pmI dont think I could choose between Fosse and Robbins. They were both amazing. No one will ever beat the choreography they created. The choreographers around today just dont compare. Sure they are talented(well most of them) but nothing compared to Robbins and Fosse
