Edward Hibbert WILL get a nomination.
How about
Michael Rupert and Christian Borle?
everyone keeps forgeting that John Gallagher Jr. did NOT get very good reviews from most of the press.. while mostly everyone on the board loved his performance (including myself!) he was pointed out as even being distracting in some reviews, with Groff mostly getting the best reviews out of the bunch. Lets hope John Gallagher get a Tony nod, but I don't think it is a definite lock, especially since he could cancel out with some of the other boys in the Tony voters minds!
The only review I remember saying anything directly negative about Gallagher's peformance was Talkin' Broadway. Other critics just didn't say much about him - positive or negative.
I don't think Cavenaugh will get a nomination at all.
McMartin will, but he probably won't win. His part is SO SMALL, he makes absolutely no impression.
I wouldn't rule out a win for Cullum.
Is there even a category for Best Featured "Acotr"?
See for me John Gallagher was very dissapointing. No substance behind that hair.
I didn't want to start a new thread but I'm interested to see what people think about the supporting actress race too.
?
John Cullum is above the Title, but that seems to mean nothing these days, and that part is even smaller tham McMartin's.
Gallagher was a standout for me in a rather weak acting but so enegizing cast.
So I say
Cullum (if they put him in that category)
McMartin
Gallagher Jr.
Rupert
Hibbert

I was gonna say...is it just me, or did John McMartin not really do anything like, at all in Grey Gardens? I honestly remember that he came onstage and sang half of a song maybe, and then left. He made no lasting impression at all. I don't understand why he'd even be nominated. I mean, I understand that he's a veteran and he's a great actor and all that, but for this role I just don't see it.
I think John Gallagher Jr steals the show in Spring Awakening. Im hoping he wins.
CurtainPullDowner, who is Hibbard?
And gumbo2, I agree with you. McMartin's role is miniscule in this production. I understand that this would be his 6th nomination after a 50 year career on Broadway, but in my opinion this role doesn't even warrant that nomination. I'd much rather see Cavenaugh get nominated for his dual-role.

For the person who asked about Featured Actress, my predictions are:
Orfeh (Legally Blonde)
Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins)
Barbara Walsh (Company)
Mary Louise Wilson (Grey Gardens)
Karen Ziemba (Curtains)
Wilson is the only lock in the category and the definite winner.
Orfeh's slot is the one up in the air at this point...it could go to Linda Balgord from Pirate Queen, provided her role is large enough.
I know 99% of the Spring Awakening people are available, but I don't forsee nominations.
These predictions are based solely on the musicals that are playing this year (and the surprising lack of featured actresses).
Johnny Gallagher Johnny Gallagher Johnny Gallagher!
When did he become "Johnny" Gallagher? I've never seen him billed that way, or refer to himself that way.
Mc Martin is, I believe , the only of the 4 leads in the original Follies still with us
He should get an award for being in that plus for his career. he has not even opened in 110 so lets see where he goes with the character . I assume that he will be great as always though
I really can't see Rebbecca Luker getting a nomination.
Only three Johns? Couldn't you think of any others that stand a chance at nomination? It just looks a little sad and empty when two of the slots aren't Johns...
Oh, I think McMartin's feud with Edith before Peas in a Pod is Tony worthy. If anyone should beat him it's Hibbert.
As for featured actress, I believe Mary Louise Wilson should win just for her scream of (SPOILER)"I can't open the goddamn can." Of course, she was terrific otherwise, but that sealed the deal. The only person I could see beating her is Barbara Walsh. Sure, I'd be disapointed, but Walsh is just as deserving. She gives the best performance of "The Ladies Who Lunch" since Elaine Stritch.

Gallagher...
I think it'd be really interesting to see the competition between Barbara Walsh, Mary Louise Wilson, and Karen Ziemba. Ziemba has a meaty role that in many ways could be leading (in the way that Sutton Foster was considered leading for The Drowsy Chaperone), Barbara Walsh gives a rendition of Joanne that bows to Stritch while taking it in a completely different direction and she makes you think that the role was written for her (I personally thought she was more deserving of praise than Esparza), and Mary-Louise Wilson obviously gives one of the most complex heart-breaking performances on Broadway at the time. I couldn't pick my favorite between those three.
John Gallagher, Jr. 'Nuff said.
