"Best Musical Since Passion"
This is what the Wall Street Journal theater critic has said about The Light In The Piazza.
I haven't seen it yet, so I need to know: is it the best musical since Passion?
I thought someone said it was the best SCORE since passion......
And if what you say is true, then no - it's absolutely NOT.
Terry Teachout, the critic for the Wall St. Journal, says its the best musical of the season (Spelling Bee included) and the best musical to open in New York since Passion.
I still read Teachout's reviews, but ever since he started talking about how much he dislikes the way Audra McDonald sings, I've been wary. He even mentioned "Audra McDonaldisms" in his Piazza review.

Obviously the depth and brilliance of "Lamb Chop on Broadway" went right over his head. Shari Lewis WAS Lamb Chop.

Comparing anything to PASSION is damning it with faint praise.

And Kissell (unaccountably) also called it the best score since "Passion."
