Alot of attention is given to belty altos, but, for me, nothing is as glorious as a well supported soprano. For today, Kelli O'hara and Audra McDonald are amazing sopranos. Back in their primes, Julie Andrews and Barbara Cook were amazing. Who else has that classic soprano sound?

I really love Kristin Chenoweth's voice, she has such a sweet and clear tone and a nice range. She really can sing anything.

I'll second Kelli O'Hara. I know soprano ingenue types aren't in, but I think she's great at it.

Audra McDonald, first and foremost, best, forever and for always. A distant second and third are Kelli O'Hara and Laura Michelle Kelly. Cheno is in the mix too.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Kelli O'Hara is FAR superior to Audra or Kristin...and MUCH NICER than either of them as well...

Rebecca Luker is phenominal, as is Laura Benanti. Both of these girls sing with such a classical tone, and yet each style of music that they sing are well fitted to their voices.

Marin Mazzie also has a good soprano. Also, while she was at college, I saw Ashley Brown (Bell right now) in a college show and she sang soprano beautifully.

Audra McDonald, (not musical theater but opera) Kathleen Battle. Kristen is pretty amazing too (just thinking of her Glitter and Be Gay) Shirley Jones did have a lovely soprano in her day.
