Best song from Godspell???

I'm in the show right now and was listing to the 2001 tour recording and was wondering, what is everone favorite song from Godspell?? Mine is By my Side.. OMG my opinion, its the best song in the show.. if done right.

I love many of them..especially from the 2000 off-Broadway recording because I'm partial to a handful of the actors. Great show. :)

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

i'm with girl for tartaglia - i'm kinda partial to the 2001 offbway cast - kinda partial to some of the actors - especially barrett!!

anyway - my favorite song from godspell no matter who's singing it is "all good gifts"

By My Side is the best song in the show. But it has to be a really good singer singing it or else it ruins it..

I'm in a production now and just found out I'll be singing the Peggy part on By My Side (aaaagh!) It's my fave song in the show, I've got to sing it once before but I'm getting freaked out - we tralked about our fave songs, etc. as a cast in a discussion and sooo many people's is that song, and now on here so many people are naming that one - I feel pressure man!

Anyways, that's always been my fave, but I was a part of a production earlier this year with an AMAZING woman singing Bless The Lord (we had the touring cast arrangements licensed to us so all our songs were all the same as that recording) and she made me fall in love with the song again as well.

So either bless the lord or by my side - tough call.

for those in other productions at the moment, send me a message sometime - I'd love to hear your concepts for the show...ours is still in development but definitely like nothing I've ever imagined...

Love By My Side, but love to sing We Beseech Thee. Great show and I love both recordings (2001 and 2000)

Not recording-specific, but just generally the song that is best written - "By My Side" hands down. And surprise, surprise - Schwartz didn't write it.

overall, I find the score somewhat repetitive and mind-numbing... but thats just me.

Goodness - I love most of the songs from Godspell.

But my favorite is by far (and no one's mentioned it yet!)...Light of The World.

Second favorite - All for the Best, it's just so fun...

I like the 2001 touring cast recording, but I'm not as big a fan of the one with Shoshana and Barrett.

I think my favorite recording might actually be the movie...

I agree that "By My Side" is probably the best. I think it's just beautiful in its quiet simplicity. (I've only heard the OCR, so I don't know if it's different in the revivals.)

then you need to rename your thread FAVORITE song. I always get a little angry when I see BEST song..as that calls for a judgement call......there is no such thing as "best" song.
