Am I the only one who's tired of topics that start with "Am I the only one"?
No one is THAT unique, come on. Be more creative in finding someone else who shares your interests, honestly...
Be nice, it's Doogie's first/second day on the board.
When Betsy Joslyn sings Green Finch I get the feeling that her head will explode at some point during the song. Her eyes bug out and the whole thing is just too painful to view. A much better performance of that song in on the Sweeney concert video.
I should say that Betsy Joslyn is wonderfully talented. I've seen her in a number of things and have liked her, especially her tough as nails witch in Into the Woods on the road. But she's uncharacteristically shrill and strange on the Sweeney Todd DVD.
An even better one is on the Sondheim Celebration at Carnegie Hall from 1992 with Harolyn Blackwell singing "Green Finch and Linnet Bird"
Betsy was amazing in Sunday in the Park... but I've heard stories that on the day they filmed Sweeney Todd, they changed the key of Green Finch and she had to do it differently than she was used to doing it, therefore it sounded shrill and very unattractive. I find her to be a wonderful performer - I just think that was a bad experience for her...at least I tend to look at it that way, Possums!

I think it would be unfair of me to judge her based on one song- but her "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" was just painful to listen to. I'll take Sarah Rice's lovely version any day.

Not crazy about Betsy Green Finch. I believe the best to date is still Sarah Rice's
On a personal note....Betsy is a HOOOOTTTT to work with. She is funny as hell and a sweet lady. I would share the boards with her any day!
That song is phenomenal when sung properly - listen to Harolyn Blackwell sing it on the Sondheim Celebration at Carnegie Hall - she even takes the ending up instead of the way it's written and floats those notes so beautifully...I love that version (even though there is a tense moment where she seems a bit nervous)...

From what I heard from one of the cast members, She had a SEVERE case of the flu when that was filmed. (Word to the wise, DON'T PERFORM WHEN YOUR ARE TOO ILL-I MAY BE FILMED). I'm sure that one mistake will be dogging her for the rest of her life.
Just my opinion, based on what I heard. I may be wrong.
