The WICKED film hasn't even turned in a finished screenplay. That she would be departing CAROUSEL for that is the most absurd suggestion in the thread. I personally think whoever plays Carrie in CAROUSEL is going to have a better shot at winning a Tony (it worked for Audra) than whoever plays Elsa in FROZEN (Tonys don't usually go for Disney), but that's just me.

BroadwayRox - you'll see her in another show and/or on the small screen soon enough. It will be okay. Just breathe.

Katie Rose Clarke would be a good replacement.

No, thank you. I thought she was decent in Wicked and Miss Saigon, nothing more. Carrie needs someone who can bring a lot to the table.

Aw :* it will be okay, take care of yourself.
I wouldn't mind seeing her in the next season of The Handmaid's Tale or Westworld. It seems like those are sure shot ways of establishing your position on TV as a serious actor. There's a couple of major musicals (both shows and movies) in pre-production which she'd probably be perfect for. This current news sucks though, here's hoping a good Carrie comes our way.

I don't care about the part of Carrie anyway, Jesse and Joshua are enough for me. I guess she is doing more Waitress or got something else way better?

I thought Katie Rose Clark was the only great thing about Miss Saigon. (Probably except Eva)
So much drama for one night , might need a cup of tea, a bex and a nice lie down
Katie Rose Clark was sensational in The Light in the Piazza. She'd be a phenomenal Carrie.

I'm less excited about Carousel now.
And I need to know if she'll be cancelling her Carnegie Hall concert with Adam Kantor in November.
Also, has Waitress announced her departure date?

She won't be going into Frozen. People love Caissie in it, most of all the producers and director. So get over that one people.
She won't be leading the Wicked movie either... that will be someone more famous.
shes either pregnant..or they fired her. You don't go through the auidition process for a show, with full knowledge of dates , to then leave because of 'schedule conflicts'. Nah.

Am I the only one who assumes that the new project is either one that 1) suddenly got fast-tracked towards an opening somewhere or 2) she auditioned for before getting cast in Carousel and now just found out about?
There are about 1,000 possible reasons for this to have happened. We might never actually know.
I'm sure she will land on her feet, and I'm sure Carousel will find a great Carrie.

When I was thinking about potential Carries, I don't know why but Samantha Hill came to mind. I don't think she's done much in the last few years. Would that be a good fit?
So, Betsy Wolfe departed originating the lead role in Frozen. Then she departed originating a major principal role in an extremely high profile Broadway revival. Both roles could have very easily earned her Tony nominations, or even wins for that matter!
Yet, she is currently the third replacement in Waitress. (???)
Listen, I absolutely ADORE Betsy and think that she's one of our current great talents on Broadway, but either she's making poor choices or her agent is. She was literally about to explode with Carousel, solidifying her as one of the great leading ladies of the stage. All of her previous roles on the Broadway stage were either replacements or secondary, underwritten characters.

1) I dont think either departure was her choice
2) I think the fact that she ever had both of those parts is a testament to her great skill and an actress and proof that she will have more high profile roles coming down the pipeline.
3) I agree she definitely would've been nominated for Carousel, but I doubt the Tonys will give Frozen very many nominations or wins. They don't seem to like to reward the Disney shows (JMI being the exception to this of course)

Oh my. She was still talking 4 days ago about how excited she was for this. And recently about how happy she was that she had followed her heart in her recent choices. No way has she dropped this for film/frozen/wicked/ whatever. Something's happened over the wkend... either the scheduling thing is basically true (no sign of a replacement Jenna so maybe Waitress won't release her soon enough??) in which case she must be completely gutted, or maybe it's just a personal decision of some kind. Hoping the latter anyway cos love her to bits!! Really sad we won't get to see her Carrie. (Yet.)

If she was literally about to explode, then it makes sense that she would not want to do it
Malka2 said: "If it's important enough for her to bow out of Carousel for, and it's a "fall" scheduling conflict even though rehearsals aren't until mid-winter, I think it's a fair bet that she's signing on for a TV series. 1) Bigger career move 2) starts in the fall 3) continues through winter."
More likely to be film than TV since pilot season is over. Unless she's doing a guest spot which would be a poor reason to depart the show. OR she's doing a streaming show which doesn't have the same timeframe as broadcast TV. Maybe she's doing Damien Chazelle's Paris-set, Netflix musical. Lots of moves are happening on that this week. Production likely starts in the fall.
Rumor is she's replacing Russell Tovey as Joe Pitt in Angels in America. That's what I heard.
