Has anybody seen Bette Midler's Twitter post tonight? She just says "Why Hello! This Dolly has a special announcement tomorrow". It can't be, can it?"

This was rumored a few years ago, but it seemed unlikely that she'd do it. She's pretty much made for this role.

There were rumors about Kristin doing this but definitely nothing official. She has repeatedly expressed interest in playing this role some day though, and I want her to badly! But if Bette can do this at her age now Kristin can do the next revival in 20 years time 
I'd be really amused if Bette was eluding to something other then a Broadway revival though :p

It would be very amusing since the tweet mentions nothing about Broadway and the BWW article jumps to that conclusion.

I'm really excited for Bette though in this role! And ew, as much as I love Patti, I don't think she would do this role much justice. I don't think she has the exuberance, charisma and glamour that the role requires.

Show Biz 411 seems to be saying that it is indeed a Broadway production produced by Scott Rudin.

Will the Bettes get a special Tony Award like the Matildas to avoid another Billy Elliott situation? That's the real question.

This potential news has made me announce a confession: I have never seen a production of Hello Dolly or listen to a cast recording of it before.
If you guys would want to point me in the direction of the cast recording I should listen to or if I should watch the movie, it would be greatly appreciated.

The 1994 recording is very enjoyable, although Channing's voice is pretty shot here.

I always thought Bette as Dolly would make a good live telecast because I wanted to see her in the role but doubted she'd do 8 shows a week on Broadway. Laura Benanti was my dream Irene Malloy for that but strangely it seems like a step backwards career wise for her to play it in a stage production.
