I don't know but I think I'm getting a better feeling about the SWEENEY TODD movie. I mean...Alan Rickman...singing!
Alan Rickman.
Singing.
I don't care what Alan Rickman's doing. I'll watch him doing it.

Hahah I dunno about RIckman but I have to admit I am starting to get excited to see what the movie becomes as well. At first I was just obssessed with what a poor choice Burton was for the film (and I *am* a Burton fan) but now i'm willing to give him the chance. I just wish some pics of the sets, etc, would leak.

I've always wondered how they would do the film and am quite looking forwazd to seeing how Tim Buton does - after all he can be quite operatic and sweeping in his direction.
Still not sure about Johnny and Helena in the leads, but happy to give them the benefit of the doubt until it's released.
Wouldn't have thought that it will be long before a teaser trailer is online sowehere.
Is this movie supposed to come out during Oscar season (November-January)?
After reading an interview with Helena Boham Carter about how she had to audition for Sondheim himself and all, I feel a bit more relaxed about her playing Mrs.Lovett. I still would've liked to see a big star in the role just because it'd have been fun but Carter is a great actress. Let's hope this one's a winner.

I have to admit at least with Burton and that cast it will get noticed--even if people fro some reason dislike it (which given how even in 1978 the Nigth Music film barely got a reelase--even before the awful reviews, is a nice change)
Burton still feels too superficial, style over ubstance to me--I've never seen a film of his that managed to juggle black humour with very complex emotions and honest pathos. But like I said I suppose he deserves the benefit of doubt (I was hoping at one point the rumour of Neil Jordan directing would be true)
Ray it premieres Christmas week in limited and then opens wide, I believe, Jan 11 2008. (Which is basically the similar to Dreamgirls and I seem to remember Chicago so obviously the studio already see it as an Oscar contender)

Im still horrified by the idea... and not in a good way.

I've always been indifferent to Sweeney but I love Helena Bonham Carter, so she's my in.
I'm an optimist. I like to trust that entertainment media professionals know what they're doing and will be working to make a good movie. Sure, doesn't always work out for the best, but there's no harm in hoping. I'm even feeling optimistic about the cast. If this were a straight non-musical Sweeney, they'd definitely be well cast. And I haven't even heard them sing, so can't really judge how that part is! But I believe it'll be good, and I'm looking forward to being proven right. Touch wood!
No matter how it ends up, I'll still end up seeing it at least twice. Supporting movie musicals so they'll make more an' all that. ^_^

Ed Wood...
Batman Returns (Which managed to be both heartbreaking AND hilarious)...
I have this thing where I reaaaaally like hearing celebrities sing. I cannot WAIT to hear what Depp and Rickman sound like.

I've been excited for Sweeney since hearing rumors that Burton and Depp were doing it. I was too sure about Depp's singing, but I was very positive about Burton's direction and Depp's acting, and with Rickman, Carter, Cohen, Lee, Spall, and the rest of the cast, I'm just getting more excited about it.
There are a couple of videos floating around on You Tube with Helena on this British talk show and she talks a bit about Sweeney and how she loved it and how Mrs. Lovett was a dream role for her. There is also another video from Access Hollywood with an interview with Depp for Pirates 3 and there is a short mention towards the end about Sweeney in which he says that Burton has outdone himself.
I would think a teaser should be coming soon seeing that the best way to market the next Johnny Depp movie would be to attach it to another new Johnny Depp movie, Pirates 3.
I'm just glad Sam Mendes isn't directing.

Yeah as much as I love Mendes' stage Cabaret he felt all wrong to me when he was advertised as the director--at least Tim's film will be interesting, if I like it or not.

Ed Wood is a BRILLIANT movie and perhaps my fave but it's done in such an extreme way--I dunno. Any tricks he learned there I don't think would help him maneouver the emotions of Sweeney.
Batman Returns is a film I love but I have to be honest--I don't find it particularly heartbreaking even if as a kid I felt very sorry for the Penguin. It's more like Tim Burton's "gloomy/cute goths" on parade. (I do find much of Ed Scissorhands touching but again that's a very simplistic film emotion wise next to Sweeney--not that that's a bad thing at all)

I disagree.
Actually, the Penguin's story is somewhat similar to Sweeney's own. DeVito was absolutely incredible in Batman Returns.
And, although I'm still kind of upset that Larry The Cable Guy was not cast as Sweeney (He would be absolutely perfect...), I think Johnny Depp is the next best choice.
Not saying he's gonna be bad but you have to admit it's creative casting. What qualifies Johnny Depp for this role in the least besides being a name?
Creative, sure. But Johnny Depp is a talented and incredibly versatile performer. As long as he's got the pipes, he'll be fine. ^_^

Well that's your own opinion about it, but I actually cried when The Penguin died at the end because that moment you kinda realize that he doesn't mean to do evil, he was just a misunderstood creature who just wanted to be accepted by his parents.

Oh Dear God, don't even kid like that. Maybe for a film version of Ring of Fire or something more country music or Southern.

It won't be.
I cant imagine that it will stay intact, and dont forgot in order to qualify for a best song oscar there will probably be a new tune in there somewhere.
Imagine Sondheim winning an Oscar?
Keen- He's already won for Dick Tracy.
Double.
So, there hasn't been any word on the songs being cut?
