Betty Buckley and Into the Woods

Pardon me, but I have Ms. Buckley on the brain! Someone here posted a podcast with Michael Riedel and Betty Buckley recently. It was a nice interview. Mr. Riedel ask Ms. Buckley about her favorite songs to sing and she spoke of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sondheim. But I didn’t expect her recollection of doing the first Workshop production of Into The Woods when it was still a one act and she played the Witch. She said Sondheim wrote Stay With Me for her- which seems logical. She said they couldn’t come to terms and how she still regrets what happened. I seem to remember her name being mentioned as the Witch when the show started to have some press release. Does anyone know what transpired in order for her to exit the project? She would have been great in the part, I think.

You’re fine EthelMae! I find this stuff super interesting, I wonder if Betty played the witch on broadway, would the production last longer or shorter?
