Mister Matt said: "How often do headliners perform weekday matinees? I thought that was a pretty typical understudy performance time."
I think they would have announced if Buckley wasn't doing matinees, as they did when Donna started doing Tuesdays during Bette's run. They are advertising the show with Buckley as the main attraction pretty heavily.
Friends who saw the show earlier this week said that it sounded like she was fighting a cold. She optioned down in several places and struggled with some of the higher notes. When I saw it almost two weeks ago, she was in incredible voice for her age.
Bette Midler performed every single matinee and evening performance during her entire run (only missed one performance). Donna Murphy only did the Tuesday performance and took over Bette’s performance schedule when Bette went on vacation.
As mentioned above, unless it’s already noted and announced, all headliners perform every performance including matinees. Matinee alternates in EVITA, MISS SAIGON, DEAR EVAN HANSEN, etc are listed and known in advance.
I saw the show twice last week and she was clearly fighting a cold. Whenever she was at the back of the stage, she was blowing her nose. She looked/sounded great but must have been miserable.
Unfortunately Betty is out again tonight. I’m gonna stay and see how Jessica does. To be fair, I don’t blame Betty. It’s been pretty nasty out in Chicago lately weather wise. Hope she recovers quickly!

She posted a pic that she was at the doctor a little under an hour ago. I guess that means she won’t be on for matinee tomorrow. I’m bummed. There is no other time we can see it and I assume they aren’t offering refunds.

I think they are? She is above the title.

Why can't someone see a doctor on a Tuesday and do a show on a Wednesday?!
Rooting for good reviews for Jessica. I'm sure she'll be great. She's an original member of the Broadway revival cast and was part of the chorus. I was often drawn to her in the four times I was fortunate enough to see the show with Bette.
Jessica Sheridan is killing it. It's intermission on Election Night, and I'm very impressed with the full throttle performance by Ms Sheridan.
Though Betty Buckley scores with vulnerability and that aura that accumulates with age, Ms Sheridan is on point with comedic timing, unique line delivery, and soaring vocals. Tonight, all the Dolly money notes are evident, and then some!
Hey balcony! I’m here too! I agree with you! Jessica is doing amazing. I could tell she has optioned up on a couple notes. that hat shop scene was to die for. I WAS IN TEARS!

Jessica did an absolute impeccable job and I honestly think she did such a marvelous job with the food segment. Honestly this entire cast and just the production overall is on the same tier as the broadway production which is pretty rare for tours these days. If Betty is out for any future performances you’ll be in GREAT hands.
