Wow, they're really getting creative by abusing these non-union actors. Two big splashy musicals touring and done in rep? Never heard of that before.

I was just looking for information on this South Pacific tour yesterday. Although I didn't realize that it was being done and rep?

Big League is such trash but this is going to extremes.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

What show have you seen or been a part of that makes it refer to it as trash?

I think it has less to do with the quality of the productions, and more with their long history of being shady to their non-union companies, as well as how their productions are advertised to the public. Their trashy reputation goes back to at least the 2001 tour of The Music Man, which shook the theatre industry and made headlines in many of it's stops, and lead to some major changes at Equity, many of them not for the better.

Not myself personally, but have had several friends do Big League tours. The mistreatment of actors, forcing them to go on injured or sick due to lack of swings/understudies. Doing ten shows in 6/7 cities in one week.

They definitely have a terrible reputation. When I was in school, many professors recommended graduates to stay far away from Big League.

Is this still happening? I see they just announced the cast for the An American in Paris tour but there is no mention of South Pacific.

The situation was just that people were shocked the first national tour of a pretty major revival would go out non-equity.

The South Pacific tour has announced its cast and its pretty much a copy paste of the An American in Paris cast. So, it looks like it’s still going to be in rep with on another. I’m curious about what the set design(s) look like. Considering the middle of the pacific doesn’t really look like Paris… If anyone has the opportunity to see these, please let us know how they are. I’m intrigued.

The Big League American in Paris scenic package, as it was before the shut-down, is 90% projection, with some assorted tables/chairs/small physical pieces. I'd assume South Pacific is also going to be 90% projection, and made to work with some of the same physical pieces.
