I seriously did NOT see that coming....I was hoping Robin de Jesus, but I figured it was going to Kevin Chamberlin or Christopher Fitzgerald....
I saw it coming, but I was hoping they'd honor Bobby Steggert for Ragtime.
I don't see why you were shocked. Pretty much every major prediction was in his favor. And he gave the best performance.
You were hoping Robin De Jesus what? Because you can't seriously have been hoping he'd win for playing the same annoying character he played in the last show but only in a dress.
Levi is remarkable as Jerry Lee Lewis in his show and rightfully took home the prize.
Pullleeeezzz. His performance micmics something you would see on America's Got Talent. He, and that Jersey Boy-ish show belong in Vegas, not Broadway.
Kevin Chamberlin was the clear winner.
Kreis is the only redeeming factor of Milion Dollar Quartet. I understand why he won, but I wish it had been Bobby.
"Kevin Chamberlin was the clear winner."
Sorry, but Levi Kreis was the "clear" winner as evidenced by him taking home the statue.
The MDQ audience is a bunch of little old ladies who couldn't get tickets for Jersey Boys.
And the ADDAMS FAMILY audience are japanese tourists who've already seen PHANTOM. What's your point?
What's with the Dickitude about Kreis?

I did not see the other nominees, so I can't express an opinion here. But I did see Robin in "LaCage"....he was just plain awful. Not funny, grating and everytime he was on stage,I couldn't wait for him to get off. It was as if he was in another show. I blame him and the director for that debacle. his slot should have gone to TONY VICNENT. IMO
I had Kreis pegged to win based on everything I've read about him and the show. I think the only awards that truly surprised me were orchestrations and choreography.
Kevin Chamberlin was the clear winner.
Apparently not.
I wasn't shocked Kreis won, but I was more shocked the huge support for Bobby Steggert... do people think he should have won so Ragtime could have won a Tony or what? I really enjoyed his performance, but I think the role of Younger Brother is a pretty small part...
Did anyone really walk out of Ragtime and think Steggert stood out any more than the others in the show?
He didn't deserve the award, but there's nothing shocking about it- he was predicted by most people to win.
I don't get it, and feel the award should have gone to Bobby Steggert.
^^ Exactly. Thought he did a great job, but never thought "Wow! He deserves a Tony Award for this role!!!"
"I had Kreis pegged to win based on everything I've read about him and the show."
What have you read, other than that it is Jersey Boys lite?
Because THE ADDAMS FAMILY is such high art.

I can't say anything about this, being that I haven't seen any of the nominees, but is your comparison to Jersey Boys the only defense you've got? Updated On: 6/14/10 at 03:33 PM

Other than your opinion, you mean? Quite a lot.

Yes. It is.
"but is your comparison to Jersey Boys the only defense you've got?"
Isn't being unoriginal and riding on the coattails of another show enough to dislike it?
^^^Isn't being unoriginal and riding in the coattails of a franchise enough to not like it?
The answer is, in your opinion is apparently yes, so shouldn't you not like The Addams Family too?

What is the point of the Jersey Boys comparison? Because they are both bio-catalog shows? That's about all they have in common, actually. Bio-catalog shows have been around longer than Jersey Boys on Broadway and in the West End.
Isn't being unoriginal and riding on the coattails of another show enough to dislike it?
Opening five years later is "riding on the coattails"?!?! LOL And since when is musical theatre truly original? Rarely. And "original" doesn't always mean "better" or even "good". You don't like Million Dollar Quartet. And that is fine. But you're not really making a convincing argument as to why it is undeserving of anything.
The role of Mother's Younger Brother has more stage time than the role of Sarah, I believe.
And really...the Dickitude about Kreis (who was one of the more thrilling performers on the show last night) is really off-putting.
