And really...the Dickitude about Kreis (who was one of the more thrilling performers on the show last night) is really off-putting.
But like smoking, it makes you look so cool!
Maybe more stage time, if only a little. Younger Brother's significance is still much less than Sarah's to the overall plot, and not necessarily a role I would say people leave the theatre talking about. I don't know...I would have liked for him to win but I don't see necessarily why someone should have gotten nominated in the role... perhaps I blinked & missed a big moment of his performance.
I disagree.
Smoking IS cool.
Going after Kreis is just douchey. And no one likes a douche.
As the op, let me make it clear that I was not shwing "dickitude". I was simply caught off guard after I had heard opinions that put the Tony in somebody else's hands. Levi's TOny performance was very good indeed.
Agreed. Yes. Let's all try to restrict the dickitude and douchery to CZJ and Lea Michele.
'I know how to blow things up' is a major, major moment in the show. His role is pivotal. I remember thinking so during the original RAGTIME, as well as this one. I'm not arguing he should have won...but his nomination certainly isn't all that ridiculous (I thought Steven Sutcliffe was a shoo-in nom for the original production...he did, in fact, get a Drama Desk nod).
quizking101,
You really need to stop starting threads.
Stegert made the role of Younger Brother much more important than it ever was before.
His act 2 confrontation with Father ("You have traveled everywhere, but learned NOTHING!") was a highlight of the show. You could hear a pin drop during that exchange. And, every time I saw the show, his exit at the end of that scene was met with rousing applause.
CZJ should've stopped twitching her head every 5 seconds, it bugged the living hell out of me it was like she thought she was always in the wrong frame.
Plus, Lea Michele's hand tattoo was really irking me the whole time. All she did was over-act the whole thing, and the whole "Hey Tony Awards" felt like Legally Blonde meets Lea Michele.

To me... Christopher or Bobby should have won, but their shows had already closed which made them major underdogs. I really think Bobby deserved it as well as Christiane Noll in Best Actress. Ragtime was this years highlight for me. I would go see Ragtime before Id see any of the shows nominated again... It was clear to me that Ragtime was well received by most of us here on BroadwayWorld, but yet the Tony committee neglected this show and gave multiple awards to silly, fluff musicals. Bobby should have won hands down... out of those nominated (he had the smallest part) but made the biggest impact.

Shriekster69lvr or whatever, shut the hell up. Nobody brought race into anything so stop trying to make trouble where there is none. I've stated numerous times in threads my problems with that show and I don't feel you deserve an encore of my thoughts in this one.
And coming from someone who thinks Shrek is a musical worthy of naming their screenname after, I don't think you'd fully comprehend my reasons, anyways.
(damn, I'm usually the nice one here! You just really pissed me off!)
Levi Kreis is fantastic in Million Dollar Quartet but of course I love the show. (AND FOR THE RECORD: I am not a little old lady. I'm in college and I've already seen Jersey Boys.) Levi gives a vibrant and energetic performance. And did you see his fantastic piano skills. He gives his all in each performance I have seen him in MDQ.

i just wanted cf to win because he is very tanled and i think i nkow his dad.
That's really cool, Bryan. I bet his Dad is so proud of him!
I was hoping for Bobby Steggert. Levi Kreis is a great musician and the part I hated the least about Million Dollar Quartet but I don't think it was award worthy.
Sorry Jordan, didn't mean to start a fight and I didn't realize you've talked about it elsewhere.
MDQ was great & he derserved it.

Kevin Chamberlin I think deserved it. I really wanted him to win!
Levi Kreis is very talented and on "America's Got Talent" he would be a god, but this is the Tony Award and the sad fact is this was a year where there was so little to talk about, so little to herald, they gave ten precious minutes of the show to Green Day. Broadway had so few new productions that they gave over a big chunk of prime time to the guys "American Idiot" was based on.
Watching the show last night, I felt sad for the current state of musical theater, the two greatest words in the English language (sorry Jerry). There was nothing special about any of the four nominated shows. I just didn't care one whit about any of them.
allofmylife---I agree with you. But I also feel that when shows like Piazza or Grey Gardens or Drowsy Chaperone or Caroline or Change come along, audiences aren't all that interested. They're either bored, don't get it, or they ruthlessly pick apart something that might not be perfect, but is still lightyears ahead of the usual dreck. They would rather see and discuss who's going to play Spider-Man and who's going to replace Fiona in the Shrek on Ice tour. Maybe it's easier to grasp. It's more universally understood. It doesn't require much thinking.
But I believe that Broadway fans, both hardcore and casual, and the tourists alike (en masse) are now getting exactly what they want ... and deserve.
I was suprised...but I've only been following the Tony Buzz on here.
However, from seeing the performance (which I have NO desire to see in person) he seemed to be the "bright light".
This might be a similar time to Dan Foggle winning for "Spelling Bee" as a way to honor the entire cast and the show because it won't win another award.
Didn't SPELLING BEE also win Best Book? Or am I totally wrong on that?
