I know.... I was sleepy... and I don't get the story. Well done for you, mad about billy, and also good luck for your musical and contacting directors. So far, the best of all for me are mary poppins and billy elliot.

Replying to the person who said that we do not know if the recording will have all three Billys, if you read the earlier post, you would know that only Liam Mower is the 'Billy' on the recording - a bit of shame as it would have been nice to have a selection - the best from each of them, but, that is, as they say, life.
oh my goodness i know this is a billy board, aaannd i havent posted in ages but les miserables 1. was not writted by alw!! i was horrified to see that lol, i know its just a mistake but deary me!!! and 2. it isnt as easy to understand as billy yes but it is equally as good and musically it is most likely better.(written music not whether we like it more or not)billy is a feel good show les mis def isnt but leaves its impression on you just as much - granted u do actually have to watch it instead of sleeping or ignoring cuz its set in france. :P
on a more personal opinion i think sondheim stuff gets a bit boring sometimes, my mum cant stand it - 'sing me a proper tune' ive tried to educate but it isnt working!
hey to all the regulars and special hellos to my special people
Oui.... Je le sais, Courtney Cox, mais j'etais tres fatigue quand j'ai vu Les Miserables. (Yes I know it, but I was very tired when I saw it. I was having jet-lag)
Now, let us go back to our billy elliot topic, forget the other shows

So, I'm a musical nerd... I loved Les Mis the first time I saw it, and I loved Miss Saigon. I have never seen the Phantom of the Opera (so hit me someone). In fact, the only ALW musical I've ever seen was Whistle Down the Wind a few years ago. So, ok, maybe I can't call myself a musical nerd, but I still enjoy the odd musical.
Billy Elliot is funny and sad and well done and you can tell it is created out of love for the genre. It gives you hope for the whole concept of stage musicals.

Ok. let's straighten things out. I KNOW who the composers for Les Mis are, it's not Webber. i was meerly pointing out that the music is practically interchangable. Let's point out another thing. i've seen over 45 Broadway musicals and plays. I'm 14. to say that i am Billy obsessed would be wrong, i've never seen billy Elliot the musical. I have been a champion of the show ever since it was announced. Every one can have their own opinion. the Mary Poppins musical draws heavily from the original, much darker BOOK, than it does the Julie Andrews film of the same title.
Many people can claim that Sondhiem is boring but... come on, have you never heard Follies? It's a well crafted, brilliant piece of work. As much of his stuff is.
the book Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is an enormous book which, IMO, isn't that great. So going into the show i wasn't expecting to like it very much. I fonud the book long and boring and i could not connect at all with the characters. I found the musical the same way, except with drippy music and an annoying turntable. For those of you who like it: i'm glad! Their are obviously lots of fans and i know that i am one of the few who DOESN'T like it.
But to tell a fan of Sondheim that Les Mis forces you to THINK at the Theatre... well, that's just sort of funny.
BTW- I enjoy lots of types of musicals, i found Sunset Boulevard (sp), A Webber show to be very good and Starlight Express (though very sappy and content wise it stunk) was utterly breathtaking. As you can probably tell from my username, Caroline or Change, Avenue Q and Taboo are three of my most favorite recent shows.

If I were a bit younger, a different sex, with a geordie accent and an iota of talent. I would play George the boxing coach, then I could knock the block off the fictitional Billys ie MF and he/they wouldnt be able to annoy us with their constant adoration of Liam Mower.
of course, the chances of you working with Lee Hall are very slight, GOOD LUCK
