It's the Indian version of MAMMA MIA. I'm sure it will do fine on tour.
That's funny you should mention Mamma Mia. The reprise of "Shakalaka Baby" at the finale of Bombay Dreams very much reminded me of the finale of Mamma Mia with "Dancing Queen". But it's good that people walk out of the theater with a smile on their face.
haha that's true. I didn't think about that. It was so fun. When they started dancing to "Shakalaka Baby" and everyone was cheering. It was cool.
i wanna see the show again so bad!!! even if this new Priya stinks! Im spoiled after seeing Tamyra.
Priya doesn't stink. I thought she was a good actress and her voice was fine. The duet "How Many Stars" was hauntingly beautiful.
As John Lennon would have said, "All we are saying, is give Priya a chance."
I will trust your excellent review Steve.
less than 2 months away!!!
Well Priya doesn't stink...it's just her voice is not for this show. She does have a good opera style singing voice and that's good. Again not for that character. Her acting is good too. I guess I was expecting something different.
opera and Priya, yeah..it's kinda weird.
Shakalakalaka Baby!!! Woo Hoo!!!!
Haha, that never gets old. :) We still sing it on our hall at school.
Muscle, yeah I can't wait to hear what you think of her and the show.
I can't wait to hear my own review either...the show was so amazing on Broadway, i think it's gonna be weird to see a different version...i will also see the show in a smaller venue...so it might work better than in Costa Mesa.
Any other review of the show?

I'm kinda bummed to hear the sets were scaled back. I love seeing a nice set.
I just listened to some clips off Amazon.com - I love the music. It has some great music in it. Do the orchestrations sound the same in the theater? It seems like a lot of the music is very like "techno" sounding, does that work in the theater. I'm hestitent to buy the CD off Amazon because I heard everything's changed so much. Can someone tell me the songs that were cut from the American production?

the only song that is techno sounding is "Shakalaka Baby" i think. I love the cd. But i love the show Live even more.
I almost hate to admit it (again), but I found BOMBAY DREAMS to be no more or less than what it tried to be. It tried to be a big, splashy, Bollywood-fest, and it was just that. I thought the music was excellent (as far as music, not necessaril as far as a theatrical score.) The sets were gorgeous, and the lighting and costumes wonderful. I thought the choreography was excellent as well. I really loved this show.
it was a fantastic show, i wish more people would give the show a chance and go to see it and let themselves be amazed!
They should have given it a chance on BWY cause if they see it on tour it's not the same. Tour=smaller sets, etc.

I wish the sets weren't smaller, but I have a feeling I probably won't be able to tell - since I didn't see the original. Well, I didn't mean techno, but like, they don't sound natural. I dunno if that makes sense, but its got a lot of synths and beats and whatnot. Just wondering how that translate to the theater.

I saw the US Tour last Friday evening and I enjoyed the show. The sets, costume, dancing, and some of the shows were beautiful. The actors that played Priya and Akash were good and believable in their respective roles. I thought Priya's voice was such better at the lower registers though. I'm now sure if it was because of the sound system, but Akash got drowned out a lot on Friday. I thought Sweetie's role was a real standout and was especially heartbreaking. The water fountain efect on stage was interesting to see. I just felt bad of the crew that had to come up and squeegy all the water on stage. LOL! Unfortunately, the book is rather predictable and cheesy. Some parts more than others. Like Priya going an unconvincing kick to save Akash from being shot by her fiance? I don't know. Just not my thing.
Overall, entertaining show with lots of energy and dancing. Sorry I can't compre with the Broadway production though!

is there a show curtain? sorry for the nit picky questions haha.
you mean a curtain call? i don't get the question. The show will be in Alabama soon. Excited?

haha, a show curtain is the like the curtain that hangs before the show, like the one for Wicked is a big map or for instance, RENT doesn't have one.
And yes, I am. I'm debating whether or not to buy the CD before or after the show. Well before it or at it.
oh...ok...i actually understood what you asked, i just wasn't sure, hehe, it's funny but even though i saw the show on Broadway twice, i don't really recall that. I think it did have a curtain, a sparkling curtain. But still not 100% sure. I usually like to get the cds before i see the shows. But this is a show that i actually saw without knowing the songs at all, and i still loved it. I listened to the cd before i saw the show, and i hated it. So just get it while you are at the theatre. Hopefully they will sell it at the venue.
