I go to BU and I've seen a couple of things in the past months. I saw the Evita tour. I thought it was fantastic!! I've also seen a lot of theatre from groups that my school does. Tuesday I will be seeing Boston Ballet's Nutcracker.
I'm from the Boston area (which could actually encompass half of Massachusetts, as far as I know). I haven't seen any shows there lately, but I will be - Phantom and The Producers. I'm very excited about The Producers. Saw the National Tour in D.C. and loved it. I'm still bitter that Alan Ruck is leaving the month before the tour ends/it comes to Boston. I wonder who's taking his place? Maybe Harry Bouvy (that tour's Carmen), except then someone else would need to go on for Carmen, and so on, chain reaction...hm.
Speaking of Phantom, am I the only person in the world from this board who went to that promotional thing at the Opera House? They gave out cool, black canvas bags with the logo on one side and the mask on the other. I should sell it.
ETA: Since we're supposed to be talking about things we've seen...uh...I saw the National Tour of Phantom in Boston a while ago. Wicked awesome.

Yay Bostonians! Well, yay Massachusett... people lol
I've seen the Boston staples (Blue Man Group and Sheer Madness - both AMAZING), along with Evita and Lion King (Evita = excellent and Lion King was ok...). I'm going to see Lion King again between Christmas and New Year's. I'm really just discovering what Boston has to offer

I'm at Boston University as a tech theatre major, and our shows are generally worth seeing. We're also professionally affiliated with the Huntington Theatre Company, which is definitely good stuff. No musicals, really, in either of those though. The college theatre around here is decent though, between BU and Emerson and the other randoms. It's a different animal than the touring productions, but I think it's more like real theatre.
I was so excited to see a Boston thread!!! Rock on Boston!
I haven't seen much lately (living in Boston also means paying rent in Boston, which means I am super poor!) although I did see the Lion King over the summer. The sets are amazing...and I LOVE how they renovated the Opera House!
I saw a great production of Lost in Yonkers at the Huntington a few years ago.
I can't wait for Phantom!
It's just like learning how to ride a bike. Once you learn how, it falls off the back of your car and drags along 495 at 70mph.
I live in nh but go into Boston often. I recently saw the Evita tour which was good. I saw Company about a month ago which was excellent! I'm looking forward to Sweet Charity this spring.
I'm from Boston!I saw a great production of The Last 5 Years at SpeakEasy Stage Company earlier this year and a few months ago I saw A Little Night music at the Lyric Stage Company which was also excellent. I have also seen some excellent shows at The Huntington and the American Reperatory Theater. We always got Shear Madness and Blue Man Group, too which is great!
As for tours, I saw Evita recently which was excellent and I'm looking forward to Wonderful Town, Phantom, and the out of town Sweet Charity tryout.

Well, I just moved from NYC to Boston to do grad school, and I'm looking to meet people here. So if anyone is for making new theatre-y friends, message me!
I've not ventured out nearly enough here. In November, I saw Big River's tour (which I adored in NYC too, and I so wish I could have been involved somehow). I also saw Devanaughn Theatre's production of Bella Donna.
Since I'm at ART working towards a degree in dramaturgy, I don't get out enough. I've seen plenty of cool stuff here, though. Enjoyed Marcel Marceau's summer visit. I worked on our current production of The Provok'd Wife.
I'm impressed by the energy of local theatre. The tours are great too, and I'd like to see LK and Phantom like anyone else (esp with free tickets) but I really admire the "artsy" theatre here. It has a lot of grit and bravery that is lacking in NYC.
Anyhow, PM me if you're in Boston and would like to chat over coffee sometime -- or even just IM.
I have seen most of the biggies that come to beantown (except Lion King... never know, though) and they are all awesome! Another place you should look into is the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, it's a professional theater company that uses many bway actors for their shows. Many of their shows are top notch (they were one of the first to get BatB and Aida in the same season... I didn't see either, but I heard they were excellent). Next year they have R/H Cinderella, Millie, Camelot, The Full Monty, and a couple of others. Go to www.nsmt.org to see what they have to offer.
I love NSMT. I saw Beauty and the Beast there this summer. It didn't live up to the Broadway version (how could it?) but I have to give them credit for translating it to their stage. Theatre in the round must be so hard to do. I can't wait for Millie - I'm begging my mother to bring me. I live fifteen minutes away from it, so it's the closest thing I have to Broadway. *sigh*
I love working in Boston.....have done quite a few shows at North Shore. One of dearest friends works in Boston ALL the time!
"It never bothered me that she called me a c*nt, it bothered me that I answered to it!" Carol Channing about Ethel Merman filming an episode of "The Love Boat"
Im a NYer..but from The Boston Area. Ive done many sows there... I just got home from a weekin the nutcracker. In the past few years Ive see nLast 5 Years and Batboy (Speakeasy), Beauty and Saigon tours and ummm, some others.yay. I MIGHT go back and do ashow there this summer, ill have to let y'all know. heh
