I love the show despite its flaws. So sad to hear to news. Maybe Cusack can fly to Gershwin and defy gravity like she did in Chicago.

Sad but not a surprise. I went in with low expectations and truly enjoyed this whoosh of fresh air. I had never heard of Carmen Cusack before this show. She deserves another shot at Broadway. Glad she got to perform on the Tonys at least.

Thankful it lasted as long as it did.
While not perfect, it did have a certain charm.
Absolutely adored this show. One of my favorite surprises of the season and of the past few years. Hope to see it again somewhere.

Always sad after the Tony awards to hear about shows closing. This one was hardly revolutionary, but the production was classy all the way around and the story very universal. This should have played longer. I have to say I think this is the producers fault. I think they did a really terrible job marketing this show...from not hammering the point that Steve Martin wrote it to choosing odd songs to sing on television shows...they never seemed to get across to audiences what this show was really about....a love story and the baby they lost is something audiences could really connect to. Truly a missed opportunity here that I think the producers are to blame for

Bright Star is one of my favorites this season. Just purchased tickets to see it again on 6/26.

I'm so sad about this. I expected it but was holding out hope it would stick around a bit longer. I know a lot of people on this board didn't like it, but a lot did, and everyone I spoke to who saw it loved it.
Bought my ticket to the final performance. I've never been to a closing show. Might even catch it another time before that. I know it's not a perfect show, but it brought me so much joy.

Was anyone at Bright Star tonight (6/14)? Their closing announcement came out right as the show started. Wondering if the performances were noticeably more emotional or anything?

I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of it, but I was way more into it than I thought I would be, even though it isn't the type of music I would typically listen to at all. I enjoyed it so much, and LOVE Carmen Cusack. Such nice cast. Sorry to see it go so soon now.
"The vultures have been going after this show for a while begging for it to close."
Translation: "I liked the show but others didn't and even though they explained why they thought it was a poor show, disagreeing with me makes them bad people and therefore I will call them names because I just can't deal with opinions different from my own."
Normally I'd agree, newintown, but I can think of one or two people on here (not naming names) who have actually been quite vicious towards the show. They've done more than just present their opinions.

How does one present more than an "opinion," unless they were facts?
He didn't say present more than an opinion. He said, did more than present an opinion. Two very different things. I could say, "Liza's Headband is the cause of my drinking" just to cause trouble. It's neither a fact, nor my opinion. It's me doing more than presenting an opinion
Not that we need play pointless semantic games but - if one were to say or write "Liza's Headband is the cause of my drinking," that is, indeed, an opinion:
o·pin·ion (??piny?n/), noun
a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

AMEN. Thank you, Newintown.

In the not-unlikely event I am one of the un-named names, I am quite certain I have never said anything vicious about it. I found it enjoyable but not great. We all have shows we are passionate about, and not, but analyzing the numbers on a show and what they suggest is not vicious, and if you allow yourself to confound passion and analysis (in either direction) you are not engaging in intelligent discussion.
Newintown, it is not an opinion if it is an outright lie meant only to cause trouble. I do not think LH is the cause of my drinking. I'm just saying it. So it is NOT an opinion. If I said, "Newintown actually resembles a suitcase in real life" That is not an opinion because I don't know you in real life. An opinion is something you think to be so.
artscallion, I see your point, but if you say or write such a thing, there's really no way for anyone to know if you actually mean it or not, and so it's going to be perceived as an "opinion," no matter what's happening inside your head.

Closing announcements are very often released at curtain time. Not anything new here.
You're correct newintown. But that's irrelevant to Liza's question, " How does one present more than an "opinion," unless they were facts?" I'm saying that bjh did not say "more than an opinion" he said "did more than present an opinion." And my answer to Liza's question is that you can do that by lying, exaggerating, being provocative, etc. Does not matter if people perceive what you say to be sincere(opinion) or not. Just saying it is possible to do more than present an opinion.
I just listened to cast recording two times in a row and it's such a beautiful score that means something and it isn't just fluff.

loved the cast recording

tough spring season for new shows....

actually, it's quite good. Only two shows that garnered any accolades are dead; the rest are alive and kicking, at least until the fall and several well beyond.

So? I still want to know how their performance went.

For what it's worth, HogansHero, you were NOT one of the people I was talking about.
