This casting to me is inspired. It has me even more excited for this. For Danny Zuko, they are definitely going to go with an even bigger name. Darren Criss is not a bad choice. I wouldn't be surprised if they were considering Nick Jonas though. He's young, quite famous (now especially that he is a solo artist) and he's done Broadway.

You'd think someone like Skylar Astin might be a good fit. Pitch Perfect has given him a bit of a profile, could make a good Kenickie. But yeah, I think that's probably about the level of casting they're looking at

I'm honestly surprised by all of the praise for Hough's casting. Outside of her dancing, I have found her untalented and insufferable. And none of her outside work seems to have done well. I don't think she's much of a draw outside of the Dancing with the Stars world. Even there, her brother seems to be the bigger draw. I think Hudgens will be fine.

Nick Jonas as Danny and throw in a shower scene. Would have loved to see Lea Michelle as Rizzo. Hough is a bore. I guess it will be a dancing role now.

What? Is that blonde girl who looks like 34 with that smokey alto voice and absolutely no innocent look or voice cast as Sandy? Have they lost their mind? Do they know anything about the role of Sandy?

And then they cast a sweet, much younger looking, bubbly girl as Rizzo?

I could absolutely see Naya Rivera as Rizzo and for Sandy I'm not sure yet, but definitely a fresh, young, innocent looking girl.

I had a similar reaction when I saw Julianne's picture. Makeup can be really fierce for some people so you never know. I was thinking Grande could be a good Sandy but they probably couldn't afford her, and I haven't seen her act outside of her ditzy Nickelodeon stuff so I'm not certain how capable she is. Naya would have SLAYED as Rizzo.

MY question is which version of the script they're going to use? The original or the 2007 revival version which was closer to the film and toned down. I would think the latter.

I wonder if they intend to market it as a family program? One of the main ad ploys for the NBC ventures was the "Whole family can watch it" angle. Which of course GREASE does not conform to.

Perhaps it would be better to edge it up and appeal to an older crowd? Especially since it's likely going to be a 3-hour broadcast that'll run past kids' bedtimes anyway (one of the apparent flaws of SOM & PP).

I can see Julianne Hough as a competent Sandy. She's got the singing and dancing talent, and as for acting . . . well, Sandy's not exactly deep or complex, so it probably doesn't take much. (Not one of my favorite characters!)

I can never take Vanessa seriously at playing a bad girl she seems so wholesome and youthful, I personally Woul have thought Julianne Would be a better Rizzo and Vanessa Sandy or Jan, of she really must indeed be in it. I don't think she's a great singer or actress but I haven't seen zen or heard much from Gigi yet so I will reserve judgement for now.

Mrtrobz, Have you ever seen the film Spring Breakers? Vanessa plays a drugged up whore in it. She did a pretty good job in the gritty scenes. But yes, I can't see her as Rizzo.
