I have not seen "Bright Star" but had a great time at "Something Rotten".
I thought Shuffle was way too long with a weak storyline. Very disappointed.

Now that you mentioned this, well, you can see the "twist" in Bright Star 525,600 miles away. Just a heads-up.

If you've seen Book of Mormon and liked it, go see Something Rotten.
If you liked (?????)** go see Bright Star. If you're looking for a strong storyline, well, that probably doesn't bode well for Bright Star, but hey, who knows.
Let us know what you end up seeing, and whether you liked it or not.
**I really have no idea what I would consider comparable taste-wise...
BRIGHT STAR!!!!! You NEED to see Carmen Cusack in the role. She's astonishing.

If you really enjoy One Woman shows, see Bright Star. That's basically what it is.

Not really sold on either right now. Ugh. I suppose if I get a rush seat and at box office by 9:30-10 I will see Bright Star.
As I posted above I have seen this trip: color purple, she loves me, waitress, curious incident, king and I, and shuffle.
Any other suggestions? I'm open and time is ticking!

Between those 2 shows see Bright Star. Like most said Carmen is not to be missed. If you can't choose between them go see American Psycho(which also has a rush and a digital lottery). It's the best show on Broadway...IMO...and no I haven't seen Hamilton.

What aren't you sold on? The vast majority of this thread is people yelling at you to see Carmen cusack, if they say it, do it.

Not sold on either which is true, but leaning towards rushing for Bright Star.
I've heard so good stuff about Off brdwy lke dear even hanson, daddy long legs , and cagney. If they have rush those may be a contender although DEH is still sold out...will wait for it to open on brdway.
this Libra has a difficult time with making decisions. Can't you tell?? Hahhaaaa!

Dear Evan Hansen has a rush through Today Tix. I enjoyed Daddy Long Legs a lot also. I'm probably not helping you much...haha.

This is it! Rushing for Bright Star tomorrow morning. I love Edie Brickell anx would live to see what she came up with with the score. And Cusack is not one to be missed as many have said.
I'm going!!!! Will report back.
times to rush on a busy weekend (sunday) or how many rush seats they have would be helpful it you know!
thanks !

Hope you love it! Report back and let us know what you think.
I know some people loved Daddy Long Legs, but all the songs sounded the same to me. It was fine, but there are a lot of shows I'd pick first. I'd definitely say Bright Star was the right choice! I'm planning a repeat visit the day of the Tonys... And maybe one other time before then. It greatly exceeded my expectations. And even though I think Erivo was tremendous in the Color Purple and will probably win the Tony, I'm rooting for Cusack. There's something so great about someone who has been working for so long yet never been on Broadway finally find the role she was born to play. That's 100% what's happening in bright star.
Not sure what time to get there, but from what I've heard it's been a you actually have to rush it show right now after nominations. If they run out of rush, ask about the balcony, which has a wonderful view and is where I saw the show from. If all else fails, the balcony is available on TodayTix for $39 (shameless plug, but if you need a first timer code - mine is TXLKM).
If you're still around tonight, Daddy Long Legs has a Sunday evening show at 7:30, so you could see it after Bright Star. They have a $25 rush, and I'd say if you walk over from the Cort after getting your Bright Star rush you should still be able to get a rush seat for DLL.

Did you get to see bright star?

Update: loved Bright Star! Was in line for rush at 9- first in line. By 9:30 there were 10 ppl and kept growing from there. The ticket was an awful seat-front row center, couldn't see much, way too close. I moved up to mezz(2nd row from last, right side) at intermission. This was a great view.
I was skeptical about the bluegrass music but found it enjoyable! Actually, I found the whole enjoyable and left with a smile on my face.
After seeing 7 shows in 5 days, I feel like I made good choices in what to see except for Shuffle. Second from the bottom was Curious Incident, but I am more of a musical person than plays.
My ultimate show was The Color Purple. I am still reflecting on it! Just speechless. Cynthia should take that Tony!!!

When did they release the rush tickets? How long did you have to wait in line?

Since it was a Sunday the rush tickets for Bright Star were released at noon when box office opened. The other days they are available at 10am when they open.
I got there at 9 am earlier today (Sunday) and was the first in line so I waited 3 hours. You probably could have gotten there at 10 and still have gotten rush. I think they have 25 rush tix available. It is probably easier during the week, especially Wed (2 show day).
Being the first in line for a single seat may have been the worst seat for a rush. I'm not sure if you can request other seats available for rush. If you rush and they offer front row center, I would ask for something different or take it and move to the mezz which are good seats anywhere.
This was an especially busy weekend for shows with the nominations announced recently.

So glad you enjoyed it! I think the bluegrass label is in some ways hurting this show. I think people have the misunderstanding that they won't enjoy it if they aren't a big bluegrass fan, but that definitely isn't true! Sure, if you hate bluegrass you probably won't be a fan, but I don't think you have to love it to love the show.
sounds like you had a fabulous trip!!
That is absolutely true Chi! I wouldn't consider myself a Bluegrass lover (or country for that matter), but I love the music in this show. The closest in comes in style to any other show I've seen is probably Violet? Also a score which I loved. Maybe that would help people? The revival with Sutton was pretty successful, although it was a limited run so I don't know how many people have seen this or know the music...
Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed it brdwybuff! Do go see Rotten when it comes on tour though, I thought it was hilarious and definitely worth seeing as well.

"Violet is a great comparison and probably the closest to BStar (I am a big Sutton fan and loved Violet). I really was surprised at how much I truly enjoyed the music. As another poster said the bluegrass type of music may be turning ppl off. It shouldnt! This was a great show!!
Interesting. I saw Shuffle in previews and Bright Star last week and while I agree that Shuffle needed to tighten the second half of the show (since previews I think it's been cut down by 20 plus minutes) I still thought the story was interesting and the performances outstanding. The performances in Bright Star were great (Carmen was amazing). The story on the other hand...oy.
