What a terribly disappointing season. I always thought Boston was one of the premier cities for touring productions. What makes matters worse is Providence and Hartford's seasons aren't much better. Where's Billy Elliot?
I think it's pretty decent.... at least when compared to recent seasons. I mean, last year, we got Mamma Mia for the 50th time, a tired Fiddler, the Lion King (just a few years removed from a 7-month engagement), August and Young Frankenstein (YF months after it hit Providence) at the end of its run, and non-Equity tours of Cats and Avenue Q (the latter of which was here 2 seasons ago). The only shows with any sort of 'wow' factor were Dreamgirls and In the Heights (although I suppose August counts here too). There was a time were Boston was one of the first stops on national tours... now we are lucky to get shows in their first season on the road.
All that said, I'm excited to see all the shows minus Wicked, actually. Aside from Wicked, I haven't seen any of those shows in NY or on the road before.
Didn't the South Pacific tour play the Wang Theatre last summer?
I am disappointed with the announcement. I really thought Next to Normal and Billy Elliot would be on the list. No need to travel to Hartford to see Next to Normal chriswin. It is coming to Providence. Also, South Pacific did not play the Wang Citicenter timote316. It is however also coming to Providence.
I highly recommend seeing Next to Normal. I saw it in NYC and it is an amazing show. If possible, try to get to NYC and see it with Alice Ripley. She so deserved the Tony award.
Atleast Hartford and Providence are getting the shows we aren't? It's better than the season here in New Orleans. Gosh, I miss my home town of Boston even more now! We are getting Shrek so I guess that's good :)
2011: In The Heights Tour 1/16/11, The Color Purple Tour 2/11/11, West Side Story Tour 3/18/11
What really irks me is that I heard from a reliable source that Providence could have booked Billy Elliot for their 2010-2011 season but opted for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular instead! Really?
Though I am overall content with the season's announcement, I always thought Boston could do much better with their show selection (even if they're taking into consideration what comes to Hartford and Providence since they're so close). I wasn't really impressed with this season nor the one before that. I am looking forward to West Side Story, Rock of Ages, Hair and even Mary Poppins. It would've been nice to see something else in place of Jersey Boys or Wicked, but it is understandable to see them come back since they are the big moneymakers.
