Does anyone know when this is?
I went last year, I think it was July or August, anyway it was alot of fun and would love to go again this year!
It was in September. I do not know when this year's will be but last year's was on the 21st.
That's right - I just remember it being hot that day.
It'll be on September 21 this year (http://www.broadwaycares.org/events/auction.cfm)
I am going for the first time (flying in from Europe, yay!)... What's it like? What kind of items are being sold and what kind of prices should I expect?
Ooooh this sounds fun!

It's one of my most favorite events of the year. So much fun. They have everything from merchandise to props to a lot of really cool random stuff.
Last year, I got one of those big cd poster things you see in stores of Julia Murney's album.
It is so much fun! They have a lot of tables with souveniers like autographed Playbills, posters, etc - Tyne Daily was selling at one of them!. They also had celebrity tables, where you wait on line and can meet them, but I think you have to pay. I remember seeing Bernadette Peters, Christine Ebersole, and Melissa Claire Egan.

Everyone in the Broadway community cleans out their basements and garages, and then their parents basements and garages, and then their 4th grade teacher's basements and garages, U-Hauls the detritus to 44th Street, and then it's sold.
Most of the productions playing have tables with signed Playbills, posters, and collectible whatnot; others have baked goods; others have used DVDs and VHS and photos from 3rd grade...

I was just going to bring this up today. I absolutely can't wait for this year's flea market.
Nobody's even brought up my favorite part, the celebrity table. I have had so many priceless moments there and at the photo booth. I will absolutely never forger meeting Frankie Valli, Ian McKellan and Bernadette Peters in the same day!
Here's a suggestion to the organizers for two premium photo opportunites I will definitely pay $40 for:
Patti, Laura Benanti and Boyd Gaines together
Gina Gershon, Kathryn Hahn, and Mary McCormack together
Here's to priceless memories, and an empty bank account!

I'm so looking forward to this. I got a job this summer just to able to buy more this year.
I hate not living in NY!!!!
I'm going this year, and it's my first time (it's the first year my annual Family Vacation didn't start the same weekend)
I am SO excited
I'll probably see tons of you there and won't even know who you are
And it doesn't fall on a Jewish holiday this year!
I love the Flea Market. Though I don't think any wacky purchase this year could possibly live up to that which came home with me last year.
HMMMM... I'll have to plan a trip for my bitrthday... Which is September 21st
You bought some massive poster of Raul in Company, didn't you?
The Flea Market is one of my favorite, favorite days I've ever spent in the City! What a thrill it was to meet Bernadette Peters, Sir Ian McKellen, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Vanessa Redgrave, Tyne Daly, Donna Murphy, Bebe Neuwirth, Christine Ebersole, Jeff Bowen, and F. Murray Abraham all in the same day! Plus, I got some great memorabilia, including more than 35 record albums, an original Norn "Grey Gardens" piece , a costume sketch from "Mary Poppins" signed by Bob Crowley, and a T-Shirt from the 1980 revival of "Camelot". I can't wait to go back this year! (fingers crossed for Laura Linney at the Celebrity tables!)
More or less. A friend bought it for me because she was there super-early... but I wasn't gonna say no. Someone offered me a rather large sum for it on the way to the subway. Then I said no.
(And so much for subtle secrecy! Thanks. )

I saw MAURITIUS the afternoon of the flea market last year. Following the show, I saw someone who had bought the Manhattan Theater Club's MASSIVE "Blackbird" window poster at the stage door waiting to get it signed by Alison Pill.
Hilarious.
I think this year I'll kind of have a better feel for how things are going to sell. I definitely want to pick up one of the large posters from something. I'm hoping for something from "Sunday".

Please photograph the process of getting that back to Boston.

Somehow, I don't think so. :)
I went last year and it was great, the problem was I spent all my money early in the day before I looked around so I had no money left. I got a Rent 10th Anniversary Playbill signed by the Complete OBC! It is awesome but I feel I should've gotten something else. So when you go buy a bunch of little cheap things and not a big thing or buy it at the end after you look around. I didn't do the celebrity table last year, I was going to but I decided that I didn't want to spend my money on it.
Laura Linney was there 3 years ago (and what a nice person!)
It is the highlight of my year...
I know, I heard that! I'm hoping she'll come back. I didn't get to meet her after "Les Liasons".
Em, I was THIS close to buying a massive (like 5 feet long) "Into the Woods" revival poster last year. Thank God it was gone by the time I went back to buy it. I have no idea how I would have gotten that home. Haha
I went two years ago and had an AMAZING time! I was thoroughly depressed that I couldn't make it last September since I was at school 9 hours away but I'll be there this year and am really looking forward to spending loads of money
