Not too awful for January.
What's going on with RENT? ouch.
Agree, not as bad as I thought. Glad to see Curtains maintaining and August: Osage County increasing. Ouch for Legally Blonde and bigger ouch for Xanadu.
WOAH. Color Purple. Is this including Chaka and Bebe's start? because... wow.
Yeah, what she said. :)
Even more ouch for The Color Purple. No wonder they had that buy one get one free special advertised last Sunday.
Color Purple's numbers weren't that great immediately prior to Fantasia's arrival.
May be a dumb question but who would pay $226.25 for a show that is almost at 50% capacity? Money to burn I guess....
Chaka and Bebe opened on Thursday didn't they?

I'm not liking this dip in Xanadu. Hopefully, it'll pick up soon! It can't close before the award season nominations are announced!!

They started on Wednesday.

That drop for The Color Purple is huge...wow. Fantasia had a bigger effect on the box office than I thought.
How did Mermaid manage to stay just above 100% capacity, with all the comps it had to give out for opening last week?

UGH! Hurry Spring!
#1 CURTAINS fan here. I was concerned about CURTAINS' drop, but after seeing all the double digit losses I'm grateful with CURTAINS only being off 3+. I know this happens every year, but I can't get used to it, I get anxious and nervous for my all favorite shows. Xanadu.
Though I am enjoying the little bump for Avenue Q, what a nasty beginning to the downward spiral.

The Color Purple's drop is even worse when you consider that the show only had 7 performances during Fantasia's final week. So with two new stars, an extra performance and an Oprah visit, the show still managed to fall $381,000.

Adam, Opening night comps are included in the percentage because you have to look at it as though they are tickets sold for $0. That is why opening week always is weird, because the gross is drastically lower than the percentage.
If it wasn't for all the big un's (Lion King, Little Mermaid, Jersey Boys and Wicked), Avenue Q would be numero uno!

Thursday night's performance of Xanadu was maybe 60% full...it made me really sad. I hope it survives.
The thing with THE COLOR PURPLE now is, Chaka performs only five performances a week. Only evening performances.
Most tourists can only make matinées. So if the main reason they are interested in THE COLOR PURPLE is for Chaka and they cannot attend an evening performance, they just cross that show off their list and choose something else.

I share broadwayjim's concern re: Xanadu. However, the fact that they've done the commericial and plans are afoot for a souvenier program indicates to me that no one's giving up the ship for a time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Not for nothing, but that statement pretty lame.
Based on all polling evidence...
Tourists are not in NYC at night. There is a curfew.
Please note, there is a curfew.
All (or most anyway) tourists must leave the city immediately.
My point was that people who come into the city for the day and do not make a vacation out of it, not paying to stay in a hotel for a night or several nights, and go home at the end of the day -- a strong majority of the NYC tourist population -- attend only a matinée show, especially families with children.
and the winter season has officially begun!

I agree Foster.
Although I'm partial to multi-day solo trips, when I travel with my kids or friends, it's usually day trips and a matinee unless it's something special like Kids Night on Broadway.
If TCP stays like that, it will have to close soon, no? Even with Oprah behind it...
And this week is a big ouch for LB. I must say, I'm impressed with Jersey Boys...been open for a while and still finds itself at 100 percent in the January slump. Kudos.
grrr its gonna be a tough few months, the only show i see having any trouble staying open is Xanadu though grrr
