come on, A Chorus Line, pick up those numbers!!!
And considering The Little Mermaid's poor reviews, it's doing very well.
Poor Xanadu.

There were lots of fans in town for Clay's opening weekend, some saw all five shows, so it's not really surprising Spamalot's take went up the first week then sharply declined once they had left town.
I guess I shouldn't put off seeing Xanadu much longer.

Posted: 1/28/08 at 8:07pmHasn't he been in Chicago before, more than once? I'm sure the producers didnt expect people to break down the doors to get a chance to see a Dukes of Hazzard star repeat his performance in a 12 year old show.

I really can't understand why Xanadu is not being better. It has great reviews, word of mouth is really good, it's a fun show, it is well advertised, gay people adore it because of its campiness, the cast is great, in short it has ALL the ingredients of a big Broadway Hit !
I so hope it is still playing in April, I am dying to see it !!!

"gay people adore it because of its campiness"
Nothing like a stereotype lol
Its just a lull few months thats all, Im sure Blonde and Chicago will pick up as will the others once they get through these fem months and Xanadu will end up getting some tony nods so that should pick up the show for awhile

Yes Blonde and Chicago will pick up.
And Greekmusicalfan, I the word of mouth on Xanadu may be overrated. It might be popular in these stereotypical gay world we're talkin about, but I think it has such a niche market that the tourists from Peoria are just not interested in it, you know what I mean?

well. its just Winter. I am sure you'll have the chance to see XANADU, Panos.. I really believe that they will stick it out & make it thru the TONYS...
There's also 4 new musicals that would open... CRY BABY, A CATERED AFFAIR, IN THE HEIGHTS & PASSING STRANGE.... Its really a tough call for now since none of these have open... I am hoping that XANADU would pick up nominations for BEST BOOK, BEST FEATURED ACTRESS, BEST LEAD ACTOR & ACTRESS...
like I said.. the word is probably..on the other side of the coin.. if one of those ^^ musicals get bad reviews.. XANADU is probabably IN for the nomination for best new musical.... It will pick up again...
Like I said.. if it does not get any nominations... it might close ( I am just being realistic) OR it may get nomination and who knows? might win the TONYS for NEW MUSICAL. (anything is possible
)
Only time can tell....

George, I do know what you mean. But as a gay man, I believe we are the best and most loyal fans ! I know, that when I love something, I go out of my way to influence other people to enjoy it. And most people listen to me, cause they trust my taste, since " I know about art " LOL LOL
GOD, I do sound like a stereotype LOL

Xanadu is far from my favorite show, but I know alot of people enjoy it and it has a large fan base, so I hope it doesnt close.
The only show I really dont have high hopes for is "Legally Blonde" the word of mouth isnt all that good from what I've heard.

<< George, I do know what you mean. But as a gay man, I believe we are the best and most loyal fans ! I know, that when I love something, I go out of my way to influence other people to enjoy it. >>
Except in the case of "Xanadu" where this straight man has seen it ___ + times ! (okay, its a number between 75-100)
So, I guess you have to be gay or very obsessive !!! lol

Posted: 1/28/08 at 8:40pmI think Legally Blonde will be fine, especially because of the TV deal with MTV, The show will have to stay open now.

>>I really can't understand why Xanadu is not being better. It has great reviews, word of mouth is really good>>
Ummm...
"Unfortunately, such self-consciousness is not likely to increase your enjoyment of this slipshod enterprise, which belongs more in a fringe festival than on Broadway. Despite running a mere 90 minutes, it quickly proves wearisome in its one-note camp attitude."
"The production is skimpy on both the casting and design fronts. A few dozen audience members are seated onstage, but this device, used effectively in “Spring Awakening,” seems less an aesthetic choice than an economic one here. With a cast of just 10 and minimal sets (the designer David Gallo seems to have blown much of the budget on disco balls), “Xanadu” uses these onstage viewers as unpaid extras and space-filling, mildly animated scenery."
"1/4 stars..Xanadon't: But in the end, “Xanadu” reminded me of something, and it wasn’t “Starlight Express” or even disco. It was “Ishtar.”
"The show’s a comedy that didn’t give me many laughs—at least, not beyond the overarching, somewhat bitter one about what’s happened to the climate of New York theater. Thanks to Xanadu and the forthcoming Grease, we’re living in a world where the leading lady of Broadway is Olivia Newton-John."
"Most overrated musical: Xanadu
"At least the disappointing Young Frankenstein had a heart and ambition and didn't reap its jokes by merely mocking roller disco and Olivia Newton-John's Australian accent."
"The Worst:
1. The Pirate Queen
2. Cyrano
3. Old Acquaintance
4. Deuce
5. Xanadu"
"The show - one of the most cynical and shabbily produced I have ever seen on Broadway - is just an excuse for a supercilious sn* and loads of knowing camp. The artist is played by a handsome hunk in shorts to keep the gay men and the teenage girls who comprise most of the audience happy, and there's a perfunctorily performed score of old ELO hits and a starlet with perky breasts and a terrible Australian accent to lull lecherous middle-aged men into a stupor."
“Xanadu” may be a lot of fun, but that doesn't make it great theatre, more of a guilty summertime pleasure. I still question the wisdom of doing this, but it does prove that, given the right talents, anything can fly on Broadway."
NOT REALLY!
