Posted: 2/1/10 at 4:00pmI had never ever heard of that Corbin guy, until he joined In The Heights. But was he in the show for a full week already? I have no clue(I'm not a fan of the show)

Posted: 2/1/10 at 4:43pmHarsh week. Chicago keeps on slipping further and further. Mamma Mia's grosses make me worried. In the Heights got a little boost, which should hopefully grow.

It's hard to imagine that the "average" price for South Pacific last week was $94.97 with the hundreds of $20 tickets they were selling at the Atrium, and tons of half price ones at TKTS also. What am I missing here?

Posted: 2/1/10 at 5:43pmHAIR seems like it's on its way out...the popularity has sank and, though will only spike again the week the cast departs and the new cast enters, it will go down again and close sometime during the summer I project.

I mena, I could be wrong, the next cast could rock the house, but in my experience, full cast replacement normally brings failure (unless the replacement includes a big name celeb).
I'm just happy since I have tix for the Wednesday mat. this week and am seeing the full cast before they go to Ol' London.

but HAIR has recouped and it's okay for them to not meet their weekly nut.
sorry, didn't feel this thread was complete until somebody said that about some show.
only one more thing, and this thread's journey to the darkside will be complete.

"but HAIR has recouped and it's okay for them to not meet their weekly nut. "
That's not true.

Well, if they don't meet their nut for a few weeks running, they Hirschfeld could put them out. THEY still have an interest in the box office.
Time will tell.....no reason to rush any shows demise.

I know time will tell...
But I mean, I'm just making a projection since I'm one of many obssesive Broadway people who reads the stats every week.
In recent times, I've expressed worry aboput HAIR and GOD OF CARNAGE as well...since both show have been low for a good few weeks running (though Carnage is getting a new cast and may go back up).

Posted: 2/1/10 at 6:11pmljay-bethnor wasn't being serious. Bethnor was mocking posters who frequently say in retaliation when people say how Hair won't stay around much longer, "But it recouped! It's got nothing to worry about!" When most people know that simply recouping the initial investment doesn't mean that a show has a "Get out of Jail" card whenever it doesn't meet it's weekly nut.

This $20 promotion was a subsidized event, and though as ticket-buyers we only paid the $20, the theater received the face value of the ticket. If you look at the "$20 ticket" stub, you will see that it shows the actual price the theater received. For example, my side loge $20 ticket shows a $67.50 price, and orchestra seats reflected their non-subsidized price.

Posted: 2/2/10 at 9:06amSo, you're saying that the producers of SP are effectively handing themselves $$ from their left hand to their right hand, and then lying about how much theatergoers actually paid for tickets and gross last week?

No, I'm saying a generous donor BOUGHT the tickets at face value and donated them to be sold at $20 each as a way of kicking off the new facility.

Posted: 2/2/10 at 9:41amI believe it was David Rubenstein, who gave $10M to the atrium project, which now is officially the David Rubenstein Atrium.
