Posted: 11/2/09 at 3:19pmI'm assuming the big tumble for most shows this week has to do with the fact that Halloween occured and it was on a Saturday this year.

Only Finian's Rainbow, God of Carnage, In the Next Room..., and Ragtime got bumps this week.
Oh well, that's how it is. Will definitely pick up around Thanksgiving into the Holiday season.

Yeah, really, most shows saw a big drop. I didn't realize the average ticket price for BRIGHTON BEACH was THAT low, it makes sense that they had to close the show. What a shame.
I hope the numbers get much better next week, especially for shows like HAIR (what's up with their huge drop) and IN THE HEIGHTS.

I'm with Marianne, Halloween had to play a big part in a lot of these drops.

Posted: 11/2/09 at 3:30pmHalloween on a Saturday and the time change and the marathon always wreak havoc. All three in one weekend accounts for the drops at most shows. A lot of them will spring back up this week.

Posted: 11/2/09 at 3:32pmRough week for pretty much everyone. However, like others said, Halloween probably had an effect. Plus, overall most shows have been doing OK for this kind of year and Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. I think shows like N2N and Hair will easily move on into 2010.

Crap N2N... please do your best to make it past the beginning of January .... PLEASE.
The show still made well above its weekly nut, even with Halloween falling on a Saturday (resulting in two poorly attended shows, for sure). It rebound this week. It's not going anywhere.

Posted: 11/2/09 at 4:55pmWow, first we get the 4th of July on a Saturday, wrecking the shows that week, now we get Halloween on a Saturday as well. The 2009 Calendar has not been kind. Brutal week. Can't really look at these results as any sort of an indicator.

I think the marathon has a big effect - most NYC hotels are sold out way in advance, which means that the usual influx of theatre-going tourists can't get into town for the weekend.
Hopefully this past week was the low point for the fall season!

Posted: 11/2/09 at 6:29pmOpening a show like Memphis in October must be tough. There are two decent months followed by three terrible months. Even with pretty good reviews, the odds are against you. It sounds like Ragtime and Finians are very good. I hope they all do OK.

Patrick Healy posted this on the NY Times web site this afternoon (in an article about Brighton Beach Memoirs):
"
The grosses for most shows on Broadway declined last week, which producers attributed to the Yankees playing in the World Series; Halloween falling on Saturday; the New York City Marathon on Sunday; and Daylight Savings Time early Sunday morning, which producers believe has an unquantifiable downward effect on grosses. Among the musicals taking the biggest hits in their grosses, compared with the week before, were “In the Heights,” “Hair,” and ‘West Side Story.”

Posted: 11/2/09 at 8:53pmWow! What drops by all! Those big 3 events certainly had something to do with it, I expect things will pick back up in 2-3 weeks!

Posted: 11/2/09 at 10:27pmIn The Heights actually didn't do THAT bad. They were pretty much at $500,000 which is probably around their weekly nut. This was one week where every show was down.

Not so interesting when you consider they only had 5 performances instead of 8 the week before (the first preview was on a Friday).
