I am obviously in the minority here, but I really didn't like JERSEY BOYS and, for the life of me, cannot explain its unbelievable success ! I was really looking forward to seeing it, but both me and my friend came out very unimpressed and, dare I say, bored ! The music is great and the show obviously touches a lot of people, but it didn't do anything for us. I think the main reason was Michel Longoria, who left us completely unimpressed and was nothing like the clips I had seen with the phenomenal John Lloyd Young !

I recently watched this edition of Theater Talk online, and the prognosis for Broadway isn't bright for the coming year. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

Why isn't Young Frankenstein included in the grosses?
Young Frankenstein does not/chose not to report its grosses.
'Shrek' sent 250 seats to TKTS todays 8pm performance.
I don't know if they sent more later or if they didn't sell the full allocation-the line died down very quickly after the 3pm opening rush.
I'm seeing it tonight and expecting a busy house as its a quiet Monday on Broadway!

Wow. 250 is alot, am I wrong?
I thought so, maybe it isn't selling as they expected just yet.
Im sorry but for a show of Shreks size and appeal its first week grosses are shocking.
Billy Elliots grosses seem to be down because they played one less performance (unless i read that wrong)
Wow. When Wicked is no longer selling out, you know something is wrong.
How in the world is 13 still running? It's making almost nothing in a theater that is less than half filled. It really needs to close already.

I tried getting a "regular" priced seat ($120.00) for WSS and the best they could come up with is Row U (which I didn't take). This is absolutely ridiculous and unreasonable on the part of the producers or whoever is responsible. WSS does not have any high-powered name in it and when was the last time that the name of Arthur Laurents was responsible for a rush at the box office? Aside from theatre-lovers, who even knows who Laurents is? (This isn't a comment on his talents or contributions to the theatre, but, come on, he isn't exactly a household name in Peoria.)

Thanks GMF for the info on "Jersey Boys". You may be right because I don't see a lot of enthusiasm for it as I do for "In the Heights."
I don't know much about it other than it's about a singing group from the 60's. Who knows, maybe it's drawing a lot of baby boomers.
So, what usually happens on Broadway when there's an economic slump? Do they just bring the price of the tickets down? You would think that in hard times people would want to escape reality more so than when the economy is strong. Just curious.
Every show holds back as many premium seats as possible for as long as they can. The hope being that eventually people will just break down and go for the premiums. As the first preview date approaches, more and more of those unsold premiums will be dropped down to the regular price.
bad week except for a couple of shows. i feel billy elliot and wicked will be back to 95-100 percent after this week. next week is thanksgiving and the ecomony is still bad. surprised about the lion king more than wicked.(still great at this time for the economy). i am happy for white christmas, and pal joeys.
I really dislike being the "Grosses Grinch" or what have you but sadly, I don't think the holiday week will bring as much gross as we are hoping for. Sadly with all that is going on this year, families aren't going to be able to buy tickets to shows unless it is at the cheapest price which still isn't even to keep our favorite shows floating high and dry. With a $120.00 ticket price, parking, food, merchandise... it could bring some families into the thousands. I do hope everyone does well but I really would be shocked if NYC was booming like it normally is and does this holiday. Here's hoping for an economy turn around. Especially for Shrek!!! I am putting all good wishes into it and can not wait to see it!

I wondered the same thing about why there was not too much talk about Jersey Boys. I recently saw the show, and the average age of the audience was 65. The show resonates with that generation because they grew up with that music. I thought the show was very good, but not good enough to warrant being sold out every week, but I am not from that generation of music. I think part of the lack of discussion about it here is it lack of discounts. South Pacific is another show that is similar to Jersey Boys in its demographic and its lack of discounts.

I found orchestra tix for $120...as close as row f. If you Check premium seats....it will find them for you.

O.K. so If I were on a budget would I want an inexpensive seat or save up for a premium. Can you enjoy the show just as well with the cheaper seats?
sometimes a cheaper seat can be in the exact same place as a regular price ticket! There have been times that I went to TKTS or used a discount code and got amazing seats.
