Hey Smaxie, you forgot a message

With BBB and Ragtime announcing their closings and the status of Finian being precarious, they will be pretty much forgotten shows come Tony time. I don't know how long CZJ's contract for Night Music runs, but if she leaves, the show has lost one of its main drawing cards. Which leaves the revivals of Promises, Promises and La Cage as the front-runners for best revival of a musical. La Cage has a potential disadvantage in having won for best revival a few seasons back (and it wasn't a particulary good revival at that, but had no real competition that year). IMO, Promises was never a great show to start with, but Kristin is a critics' darling, so it's got a lot going for it from the get-go.

Posted: 12/29/09 at 5:52pmDoing simple math Billy Elliot's cost per week(ALL costs)is now above 950k to have not recouped(assuming the 18.5 mil startup costs is accurate). All i can say is EKKKS...no worries now but sometime down the road that needs to be taken down a bit if it wants to have a 5 year+ long run(assuming it cant keep getting those insane average ticket prices forever). Then again it could become a wicked or jersey boys...but if grosses ever start to dip below 1 million I'd start to worry. And Spiderman has to do better then THAT for 5 years???? Spidermans money guys must be insane.

Apparently CZJ's contract goes post-Tonys (June/July or something? I remember ijay posted a link).
But Lansbury's contract ends in April. I hope she extends.

One site states Catherine's contract ends on June 13th, but that was before they extended ticket sales until June 20th. So I presume she will be staying until June 20th, with a possibility of her returning in the Fall.
Regardless, she will still be there come Tony time.

with all these shows closing, I think other musicals that are struggling might get a bump in the next few months as there is less to choose from.
Roa is still doing very strong business and seems to be a show that will be around a long time. And with other companies seeming to start there doesn't look like anything is going to slow them down anytime soon.
Memphis might get a bump as again there aren't many other big musicals to choose from that aren't already hits. So maybe the next few months might be good for it.

Posted: 12/30/09 at 10:12amIt's not that people take things personally, it's the fact that you are constantly saying how something is gonna close (regardless of it doing poorly in the grosses) and making it seem that you are wishing for these to close and for many people out of work. Like seriously, do you need to constantly say,"oh Ragtime is gonna close January 4th" every other day and then make your own thread about it? You are ridiculous and should be kicked off BWW.

Posted: 12/30/09 at 10:34amI'm not freaking out, but I hate people that think they can predict or say anything. I really can't stand how all massofmen says is how something is gonna close or about how well ROA is doing so well. That's all.

Erm, why can't you stand him saying ROA is doing well. It clearly is.

i think I also spoke about Memphis and how it has a good shot of doing Ok in the next few months with other shows closing but you didn't mention that did you.
You are the one making this personal. I have never once said anything remotely personal concerning this. This is all logic, and fact concerning a shows potentiality of staying power in a bleak economy. This is you taking it personally not me or anyone else. It's still cute though :)
And ROA is doing very well for a new show that didn't win the tony. Let's look at the other shows this year that were nominated for best musical and see how they are doing:
Shrek..closing,
n2n...not bad. hopefully it can hang on in the upcoming months
Billy Elliot is doing stellar business
and ROA is doing very well.
Any other subjects you would like to talk about?
