Journey's End had the biggest percentage increase!
How wonderful!
May it please continue to rise and be seen!
Boyd Gaines and Hugh Dancy and Journey's End for Tonys!

I guess COMPANY is officially in trouble. That hurt.
Happy to see CURTAINS making its way to the top though.
I thought DEUCE would be doing a lot better just based on the Angela Lansbury factor, it didn't do bad for a first week of previews but for some reason I thought it'd be in the 90s%.
LOVEMUSIK did okay, hope it only gets better from here. Also glad to see GREY GARDENS increasing a bit now that Ebersole is back.

Looks like the stunt-casting in PURPLE did them some good.
Sad to see COMPANY and others suffer a different fate.

Posted: 4/16/07 at 2:45pmI have an honest question. Is PQ doing relatively well despite the critics or is it still hard to tell due to advanced sales being factored in? I'm not sure how it all works.

It's not clear exactly what's driving the good numbers for PQ, but the fact is that some shows prove to be more or less "review-proof" -- at least in the short run. It's a tourist show and most tourists don't read or care about what Brantley and the others have to say about anything. With good marketing that gets out the fact that this is the latest show from the creators of LES MIS and MISS SAIGON, produced by the folks behind RiVERDANCE, PQ could very well be around for quite a while (depending in part on what kind of word of mouth gets spread by people who see the show -- if the public loves it and goes back home and tells their family and friends to see the show on their next trip to New York, PQ could possibly have a very decent run).

Thanks, Margo.
I agree about good word of mouth being their best bet - they are REALLY selling that fact bigtime on CASTCOM lately.
It'll be interesting to see what being on THE VIEW tomorrow does for them.

Company
Does this put the show in any danger of closing soon?

Posted: 4/16/07 at 3:32pmNot immediate danger, no. It is definitely not going to close before the Tonys, since there are hopes for awards and therefore a boost. After that, I suppose the powers that be will assess how much longer to give it. I originally thought it would run as long as Sweeney did, but now, even for me, that's incredibly optimistic.

Posted: 4/16/07 at 3:36pmI really really hope that Company improves in the coming weeks. This past week's gross doesn't look good for them.

Posted: 4/16/07 at 4:03pmJOURNEY'S END got a nice bump. And I don't think COMPANY is in any imminent danger just yet. The numbers have been flip-flopping every week from bad to really bad and back to bad. We all say, "Does this mean COMPANY is going to close soon?" and months later the show is still running. I don't think we have anything to worry about until after the Tonys.

Posted: 4/16/07 at 5:37pmI hope "Company" hangs in there. Maybe some Tony noms/wins will give it a boost. Of all the shows I saw on my trip to NYC it was my favorite by far. Raul is just outstanding!

Ouch, Company.
Grey Gardens is increasing, which makes me happy.

Posted: 4/16/07 at 7:01pmIF Company manages to stay open until the Tonys (and that's a BIG if) it will close a week or so after the Tony Awards. Now that 110 in the Shade is around and is pretty much guaranteed to take the Tony from Company (if A Chorus Line hadn't already done that anyway) there is no hope for Company. The only major award it might win is Best Actor, and I don't think that's enough to keep a revival of a non-tourist musical open for very long.

Posted: 4/16/07 at 7:41pmIf COMPANY loses the Tony for Best Revival it'll probably post a closing notice the Monday after the Tonys. It hadn't been doing that bad but 46% is not ideal capacity even for a show that is relatively cheap to run.
