Thanks as someone from outside the US is was wondering what was causing the slump this week.
As for Chess softening, I've been thinking for a few weeks it has hit its ceiling. Still not sure why they decided to extend after Lea leaves, given how it crashes when she's out, although when the decision was made to extend they were still doing $1.5M and thereabouts.
On top of Lea leaving, Nik has two weeks off in late July/early August and Aaron has two weeks off in mid August so you've got a month of JoJo and the understudies. why extend for three months if a month of that is going to be in the red?

Death Becomes Hers drop off is so interesting. I’m curious why they haven’t announced a closure, unless they have someone or something coming.

Yeah, Betsy is wrong for the part and it's just not as good overall. A few actors looked bored up there. But, I doubt they are closing and will soon announce the new cast. Or they should, anyway.

I think they will all reunite in September for 8 "final weeks" and make up for the Summer.

The show is adding four new cast members in the ensemble this week, so there does seem to be some sort of commitment to keep the show going.

But generally, who cares about ensemble casting changes other than maybe die hard fans? It’s the main actors that are generally the attraction and when you have the same ones for 18 months or longer, you aren’t keeping things fresh enough to incentivize people to return.
Yes, they are fantastic and talented, but as their stay extends, their grosses go down while their salary likely increases, creating a bigger weekly cost up against diminished returns .

Which is very cool, but the show is tired and in need of new leads, in my view. Evolve or die, right? Ha.

That's assuming Lea doesn't have other commitments then. I know a lot of people are assuming Lea is doing a Darren and taking the summer off only to return but Darren was out for what, 9 weeks? this would be Lea being out for 12 weeks, which is more than just summer with her family.
While I do believe the reason Lea is leaving on 21st June is because her son's summer break begins a few days after that, i would be more inclined to believe she is having some of the summer with her family before she moves on to something else but we will just have to wait and see.

Maybe, or perhaps they will get another star that will bring in a lot of money. Lea teased this for so long, and her last role on Broadway was so successful, so I just don't see her leaving it behind after less than a year without looking back. She is best live and on stage (just like her best friend) so I hope she comes back to the role.

I would have no problem if she did come back and I was surprised when it was announced she was leaving given how much shes been enjoying it which is why I think its a scheduling issue for something else already lined up rather than a 12 week break to be with her family.

Lol - imagine if she goes into DBH. That’d be a scream.

I think we can put that in the not happening basket.
