Good to see N2N and 9 TO 5's grosses going up!

I sense closing dates for A:OC and REASONS TO BE PRETTY on the horizon re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

Good for Godot and I'm happy to see Accent on Youth being given a chance. I don't expect to see any real effects from the Tony noms for at least another week.

Just what is keeping some of these shows alive? They can't be hanging on by more thana thread!

Mega Ouch for August & Desire under the elms.
Don't worry about reasons It'll be fine b/c it got nomained for Best play
They would want to hold out to see if it win before closing it, right?

I'm surprised Irena's Vow hasn't announced yet.

Go, 9 TO 5!

And as we say every week, how the HECK is AUGUST staying open?

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

AUGUST exceeded expectations and had a fantastic run, so I'm ok with it closing.

But REASONS is what saddens me...it's such a good show. The producers/marketing team should stop with the viral marketing, which clearly isn't working, and get the show on billboards, buses, and taxis. It truly deserves to find an audience.

At this rate though, it'll probably announce a closing date right after the Tonys where it will (undeservingly) lose Best Play to GOD OF CARNAGE. Very sad.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

I think that Avenue Q will hold out at least until July to see if it can maintain a good, otherwise it will be come by August.. It's nice to see Next to Normal finally getting boosts attendance wise. Hopefully good word of mouth will make it sell more. Shrek will be back right around the 900,000s once Memorial Day comes around and hopefully a Tony win will really bring it up to where it needs to be as it really is a good show. Same thing for the Disney shows, well except for the Tony part of it. Overall not that worst, but the the greatest week either. A:OC will be gone by August.. no doubt about that.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

What's it going to take for reasons to be pretty to find an audience? I'm just a little sad for it. With great reviews and some well-earned Tony nominations, I just don't quite understand why it isn't doing better. I have to say that I'm rooting for it to win Best Play even though I didn't see God of Carnage. However brilliant that show is, it's doing boffo business as is. I'd love to see reasons take the Tony and have a better chance with audiences.

Meanwhile, rock on Next to Normal!

Great for Next To Normal and 9 to 5...I can't wait to see them when I get to the city later this month.

Is it wrong that I literally cringed when I saw August's numbers?

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

Nope^

I think August is like everyone's little sister. We all watch out for it because it's such a good kid...er...I mean play.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

I'm curious as to what the 39 Steps nut is. They've taken a big hit lately, though I think they will recover come summer (whenever I'm on TKTS, it seems to be a hit with the older crowd and I recommend it as a good family-friendly comedy).

Go N2N - Tony noms must be helping the word of mouth :).

And ouch on August...but it did re-coup and thus far, has had a very nice shelf life for a play. If it closes, I'd be sad and grab another ticket to see it again before closing, but it could be proud of its good run.

Check out the grosses of 9 to 5 ROA fans. SEE! Comped tickets DO make a difference!!!!! Good for God of Carnage, their numbers are on fire!

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

Reasons is not doing well because it is not getting any good word of mouth. Many people (critics and show fans aside) do not like the piece.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal "I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

Ave Q had a different performance schedule last week with 2 shows on Wednesday and none Sunday. The Wed shows were highly comped which could explain it's drop

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

I guess A:OC is desperately hoping that Phylicia Rashad will increase the box office, so they're holding on until she gets there.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

I know Avenue Q does not have a high running cost, but I suspect it will be closing sometime this year if the grosses don't increase.

Wow, Shrek, Mary Poppins, Little Mermaid... most of the family shows are hurting! re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10
But definitely a nice boost for 9 to 5 and Next to Normal!

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

Alright, but even still, Shrek is nearly 100,000 under it's weekly nut! Owie!
(I know that Dreamworks won't go down without a good fight, though...)

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10

Well SHREK has been doing pretty inconsistent business from Day 1. The Disney shows will improve come summer. But there's no way Dreamworks will let SHREK go without at least seeing what the Tony Awards will do for business.
