If there's no source material, it's original.

Ok, it's original but it certainly doesn't do anything new in the broadway-canon with it's Score or Book.

Its an original story, not based on a book/play/movie etc.
Doesn't matter what your own opinion of the show is. It's an ORIGINAL musical, grossing over $1million a week. Isn't that something to be happy about?

Are we calling SR! an "original" musical now?
LOL. Why am I laughing so hard?

""Is it not??"
It's a new musical, but it's far from an original musical."
Why does every thread have to circle back to a discussion of one individual's taste regarding a show which is not and cannot be intelligently discussed?
FWIW I liked but didn't love SR. But who cares?

By that logic, Hamilton isn't original either. After all, Alexander Hamilton was a real person, and both Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson and 1776 already did the "history turned musical" thing.

An Act of God came very close to cracking the $1 million club. Word of mouth must be very good.

Or more likely that Parsons is a draw.

SR is an original musical but I understand some people's resentment towards it when someone calls it that. It cheats.

Something Rotten! is most definitely NOT original, cause it's got like ummm, music in it and that's been done and it's like umm, got people in it saying stuff and that's certainly been done. And geeeeez, people are wearing costumes and that's been done forevah.
So NOT original AT ALL. LOL, LMFAO, OMG!!! #defnotoriginal #sonotoriginal #notevenhalfasgoodasnexttonormal #whoisthisguyshakespeare

"Or more likely that Parsons is a draw. "
That's obviously true, but the fact that the attendance is increasing as well as the average ticket price is likely attributable, at least in part, to word of mouth.

Something Rotten is really just a combination of The Producers and Spamalot. I really liked the show, and theres a lot of production value to it, but its all stuff we've seen before. The score is really great though, and wonderful performances. I think its worth seeing.

Posted: 6/29/15 at 9:02pmI don't think anyone is laboring under the impression that SR is high art or that it is a breakthrough in the art form. A lot of people, me included, found it enjoyable and fun. That's all it aspires to be. For those looking for an "important" show, look elsewhere.

It Shoulda Been You is so clever and a great night out at the theater. It deserves better.

"The Apple Tree" is an original musical, and its ultimate source is Genesis.

"Wow..that's a significant drop for Chicago."
Maybe this has something to do with Brandy being off this week? or was it this upcoming week. I'm not positive which.

Chicago has been running for 900 years. It is way past its expiration date
Philly, who cares?

Brandy was off for two days (four perfs). It seems to be working with having a celebrity Roxie. However, it would make sense for the producers to also consider a celebrity Velma (which hasn't been done in ages). If not that, then having a Velma other than "you know who" wouldn't hurt. It just might help.

I'm thinking that it's nearly time for Chicago to pack it up. It's a great show, but it's been here for just about forever and I'd love to venture back into the Ambassador for something fresh.
