HOLY DROWSY CHAPERONE BATMAN! Looks like the audience went to sleep. re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/4/2006

YOWZAH!!

But Hooray for Lt. of Inishmore. Now, I know they are down a couple hundred dollars from last week, but their percentage was the highest jump this week re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/4/2006

I have a feeling after August, the Imperial will have to find a new tenent. I don't think Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is going to survive without Norbert.

I hope nothing closes on June 18th...i won't be in town to go to the closing performance!

...and I agree with you, RentBoy.

Who knows, that could be just in time for LES MIZ to move back in re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/4/2006

I know they already have a theatre, and I would be sad if DRS closed, but it would be interesting don't you think??

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/4/2006 Sad for DRS. If nothing else, I think it can last out the year. Summer attendance will be very important.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

Michael Bennett: Besides those scheduled to close- LITP,Bridge and Tunnel, Doubt, which othr ones are you thinking of? Sweeney Todd, Wedding Singer, DRS and Drowsy? Obviously, Hot Feet will close soon but I'd give the above mentioned (DC, DRS,WS and ST) until September at least. What do you all think?

if you look... every show was down (except for WICKED and Inishmore). maybe it was just a bad week in general for shows. Strange though as this past week marked the beginning of the mad tourist summer season in the city.

I realize that grosses were down but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will close. Oh also included in those scheduled to close is Awake and Sing.

Wow, this week is just abysmal in general...I really hope that DRS stays afloat, it really is a very good show. I'm glad it looks like THe Pajama Game is filled up, that way I won't be able to see it when we're in NYC (my mom wants to see it but she just wants to get rush tickets so it'll be pretty much impossible). I really hope some of these shows can bounce back...I can't believe Sweeney's doing so bad for how everyone's been raving about it!

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/4/2006

This weekend is a bad weekend generally - it's the weekend after a big holiday (aka travel was done the week before)- and where I'm from (and in much of the country) kids aren't out of school yet.

Give it a week or two - what doesn't improve into the summer is going to be what's in trouble.
Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

It's definitely going to be hard on DRS. Not just Norbert, but all 3 of their main guys are leaving within a one week period. That, coming on the heels of Joanna's leaving, might be the killing blow. And it is a shame because it really is a wonderful show.

Ouch! Bad week for just about everyone.

Don't discount the fact that it was just after Memorial Day, and the weather's been somewhat dismal. Most people spend a ton of money over the long weekend, and stay home the next.

Also, it's too early for a lot of the tourists. The kids are mostly still in school, and the college students are just getting settled back in at home and making money to spend. Give it a couple of weeks.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/4/2006

If you look mostly at the shows that did (margainally) better this week, they're the "big names" that tourists travel in to see.

I don't see as many people traveling in to see Sweeney, but maybe that's just me.

And I still assert that this was a bad week for locals to go to the theater. Between the holiday weekend and the weather, fewer people were going to the theater. There's simply too much else to do right now. And when it's rainy and nasty, I'm not going to catch a last-minute show. Period.

A bad week all-around. Sweeney below 50%, not good. Hopefully the Tony Awards will get people into Sweeney, considering it should win best revival. Hot Feet needs to close, only 30% in the Hilton must look pretty bad.
