On the other hand, it seems that the fabulous XANADU performance, made people discover this gem of a show ! Please enlighten me, was Cheyenne on, this week ? Because if not, than I am even more happily impressed by these numbers !

I want Passing Strange to succeed in the worst way but it frustrates me that it's constantly on TDF but there are no discount codes.

How can Lion King be at 100.1% ? I thought they didn't have standing room at the current theater.

Even though it's on TDF, the Passing Strange Boxoffice gives the crappiest possible tickets to TDF members even when better seats are available. The Producers and Box Office staff really seem to be out to close this show.

I fully enjoyed this show (best of the 12 shows that I saw on my trip which ended a couple of weeks ago), even though I had to slouch way down in my seat so I could see 3/4 of the stage. The other 1/4 of the stage was completely blocked by the box seat in front of me. This was in the front row of the balcony. Fortunately, the Mezzanine was only half full, and we were able to get a decent view for the 2nd Act.

Yeah, the TDF website tells you ahead of time that the seats are in the second balcony. But to me, it seems as though the producers would like people to believe it's a tough ticket to get.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/6

i have to say, i LOVED passing strange but the producers/powers that be are KILLING the show with their stingy policies.

I ran out of work last week to get a rush ticket to PS, and we were seated at the EXTREME left edge of the orchestra- third row, but i couldnt see the entire left side of the stage. Meanwhile, the entire mezzanine and the entire rear of the orchestra was empty.

What the hell do they gain by cramming everyone into the front orchestra and rear balcony? What a bunch of tools.

That said, i LOVED this show, think it belongs on Bway as much as anything else and hope the theater gets packed soon. But realistically speaking- yeah, this show has a few more weeks left in it, MAX.

I saw the show from the balcony and there was NOBODY up there. Hell, they even still had colored Playbills when I had seen the show weeks before and got a black and white Playbill. And they didn't really care if we moved around in the balcony.

"How can Lion King be at 100.1% ? I thought they didn't have standing room at the current theater."

I think they have folding chairs in the aisle.

(Just kidding, making a reference to the South Pacific double-booked ticket fiasco from the other thread. I also find this a puzzlement. Looking back, several recent weeks have sold a handful of tickets over the listed capacity. Maybe the listed capacity is incorrect.)
"What was the name of that cheese that I like?" "you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start" "well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"

They might have had un-refunded cancellations and then resold those tickets.

Passing Strange isn't paying much, if anything for the theater rental so that might be lowering the weekly nut enough to the point where it can stay somewhat afloat, although at 175k it had to have lost money this week. The Spike Lee filming would probably help recoup some costs if it is licensed at a good rate and might make back more money if it is sold on DVD.

To echo the thoughts of many, I think the Tony performance killed PS. To the uninitiatied like myself, it was pretty painful once Stew took over.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/6

While not an avid fan of the kind of music used in PS, I do think it was much better performed when I saw in person than it was on the Tony Awards. In its way, it had its integrity and I applaud the creative and perfoming teams. I'll get the CD when it's released, although I'm probably not going to play it very much.

However, if there was a wrong way to push a show, PS did it. And I do think Stew's mask was an insult to the Broadway community. But I've certainly sat through far worse in my theatre-going experience (50+ years).

The weekly grosses don't mean a whole lot unless you know what a show's operating costs are. I've heard rumors that Passing Strange's bottom line is 200k, which would mean that this is the FIRST week in a very long time that they've actually lost money.

Great grosses all around!

Though I thought [tos] might be higher after hearing about that opening night crowd...
Also, looking at their average ticket price, it seems that most people are buying off broadwaybox.com with the $46 ticket price. I hope that low average ticket price doesn't kill them...because the diehards would pay full price if they had to...

Would someone care to share a picture / fan picture of Curtis Holbrook? According to Broadway Understudies, he's on as Sonny till Sunday, July 27th. from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
