And PASSING STRANGE posts a closing notice in 5-4-3-2...

"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster. "Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."

If they think this Spike Lee thing will help ticket sales...it's a little too late.

I wonder how much longer PS will be around for.
Look at Rent it lasted a while when it was only selling b 40-50% so does this mean PS still has some time? How soon would it close? I hope it lasts till next week.

Not to mention PS revoked all discounts because it "won Tony Award."

Whey did they revoke the discounts? It only won Best Book its not like at won Best Musical. Mabey if they brought back the discounts it would sell decent enough to stay open.

Coolkid, there is quite a difference! RENT ran for years at or near capacity, paid off its investment 11 years ago and has accumulated a healthy cushion to absorb the weeks when business was slow.

PASSING STRANGE is a long way from paying back and every week the producers keep it open it sinks even further into the red. Without a significant rise in ticket sales they are foolish to keep it open when it is losing money every week.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

A nice and desperately needed jump for Spring Awakening!

*edit*: I mean capacity-wise, not money-wise.

This is getting frustrating.

How is PASSING STRANGE still getting such small business, even after the awards season?!

Because the Tony award performance, with the exception of the first minute, was Stew screaming some nonsense.

I know. How many times could you possibly repeat "IT'S ALRIGHT!"?

Oh yeah, and the fact that they only won 1 Tony.

Best Book doesn't exactly make those Mid-Western families run to ticketmaster.

Passing Strange dug its own grave by revoking all of its discount offers, as if winning Best Book of a Musical was going to create some stampede to the box office.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/6

It doesn't deserve to be on Broadway. Simple.
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/6

i don't like to bash productions on the board but damn that tony performance did nothing for me except give me a headache. before you flame me, i have been seeing shows on Broadwat for almost 25 years and I have no problem with something different, not bad.
