Wow, brutal week for almost everyone.

Brutal week. Even Hamilton dipped below $3 mil for the first time in two months.
Very happy for On Your Feet!, though. What an awesome way to head out.
Doll's House and War Paint are hanging on by a thin, thin thread.

Also, before the sarcastic and unfunny comments about Wicked's big drop start rolling in, note that they performed 8 shows this week versus 9 the previous week.

I wonder how strong Charlie & the Choc Factory's advance sales are. They were flying high in spite of the reviews and word of mouth, but it seems possible that could all dry up relatively quickly from here on out. Or am I underestimating how strong holiday sales might already be?

I wonder how much longer Beautiful has. I was there Saturday night and the mezz was fairly empty.

They did just start a lotto. Not that that means anything necessarily but it could mean sales are softening.

They just announced a rush policy. So unless they have a big star lined up after Betsy, it doesn't look too good.

Waitress has already recouped, remember.

Can I just say....I saw Waitress when it first opened and I liked it, thought Jessie was good and the cast was talented, then I saw the show with Betsy and was blown. away. She is absolutely phenomenal in the role as is Charity as Becky and Caitlin as Dawn. they elevate the material SO well. I can also say that Chris and Drew have shown growth in their performances! I really hate to see these numbers for the show (even though they have recouped!) Betsy is perfection in this please go see her and the show!!!

I don't know what Sara's schedule is like with other projects or tours but if sales were really dire I can't see her not stepping back into the show to boost the box office again. Maybe that's just wishful thinking so I can see her again.

I hope it keeps playing for awhile longer. I have a front row center aisle seat to see it on November12th. It'll be my last of 6 shows.

I agree with you - I think if she was free she would come back (and they would welcome her!)

if I didn't know better I would surmise that plays on Broadway are in un-air-conditioned houses. ![]()

One thought is it is back to school time. A lot of vacations are over. Just a thought.

Good one. I wasn't even aware there were any plays running at the moment

You know looking at the numbers for Great Comet (nearly 900k) one wonders why this show HAS to shutter in two weeks. Its pulling in very respectable numbers. Is it that much to run? Was there major financial mismanagement? Obviously there is still an audience for it, with or without Josh. The hurry to shutter the show just seems very odd because on the surface you wouldn't think they were in such dire straits.

While many schools still don't start until after Labor Day, a lot started last week. Summer is over for a significant percentage of the country. Goodbye, tourists with children of any age.
I was struck by some of the declines, though. Waitress seems to suffering what Great Comet did after its pop star left. And everyone who wants to see Waitress without a recognizable star can just wait for the tour.

Apparently their advance ticket sells post-September were pretty bad. As a poster somewhere else said: it wasn't the controversy that killed this show (as evidenced by this last week's good box office). It was that they had no plan for how to keep advance sales high once Josh left. Even Mandy's limited-run would've been a possible (if Patti can't pull in crowds for War Paint, I don't know if MP could've) bandaid. I also heard (not sure if it's true) that they never recouped from any of the off-Broadway productions so that debt was added to the debt from this production. So the amount of the gross that could go toward recouping was even lower. I mean a show like OYF which would appear to have much less debt didn't recoup after playing for 2 years! I'm glad I got to see the show in it's last off-Broadway iteration in 2013 as I didn't get to NYC to see the Broadway production (I was going to see it when I'm in NYC in November).
