The problem seems to be twofold. One, there used to be 6 shows where the weekly grosses seemingly calls into question whether the show is still able to run or in any position to recoup. Now, Tootsie is the only one of those shows left, so for people who want to look at the grosses and predict closing they are down to one easy target.

Second, the people who like Tootsie keep trying to read interpretation of the grosses as a slam against the show or its quality, which of course, has nothing to do with its ability to stay open. Lots of good shows don't make enough money to stay open, but both the haters and the lovers bring their interpretation of the quality of the show into their interpretation of the grosses, each equally misguided, just from different directions.

That said, if one is triggered by people saying their championed show may close, perhaps the weekly grosses thread isn't your thing, since that is ALWAYS the discussion, and once Tootsie announces closing, they will switch gears and go after some other show.

Not triggered, I just find it annoying and repetitive. It's like they want people to be out of work or something. Lots of people love this show and it's pretty much full every night, so perhaps they can hate on something else for awhile?

It was a holiday weekend, hence why most shows went up. This week starts Broadway week(BOGO deals), So grosses may not go up, but capacity % should.

You find it “annoying and repetitive,” but you were literally the first person who brought it up calling a mediocre week “AMAZING” and saying “suck it haters.” Just...don’t be an idiot. If you had said something like, “Nice improvement for Tootsie. Hope it’s a sign of better things to come,” there would have been nothing to disagree with. You brought it up, and you made it negative. So...bye, gurl.

I’m not a fan of Frozen, have no plans to see it (maybe on tour), and wish it no ill will. Not every show is going to be The Lion King and Aladdin. Objectively, it’s doing good, much better than Tootsie. Grossing over a million a week, 82% of gross potential. Over 95% of seating capacity.

Speaking of Tootsie, I’m looking forward to seeing it on Oct. 4th and without seeing it, I think most of the controversy about it is ridiculous (I may change my mind after seeing it). However, yes, its grosses went up from the previous week. $918,350 is objectively a great weekly gross. Yeah it’s hard to imagine that it’s running costs are more than that. But as I recall The Great Comet closed with grosses around a million (however, that show was also rumored to be plagued with poor financial management of not only its Broadway production, but also its former off-Broadway productions). And for the person who said it is playing to almost full houses every night? 80% capacity does not a full house make.

Long story short? Frozen isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It will never be The Lion King or Aladdin. Tootsie Isn’t closing tomorrow, but I don’t think a rather defensive victory dance is in order over a one good week. Let’s see if it can string a few good weeks together.

I hope it does worse next week, and continues to slide until it closes, because I didn't care for it. See, no hidden agenda here. I don't like it, so I don't want it to be open anymore.

Do I want other people to have the opportunity to see a show I don't like? No, and the whole guilt trip about putting people out of work is just so lame.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't have made a peep on this thread if it hadn't been to respond to ridiculous posts. Sometimes I just have to call out the nonsense, and tell it like it is. I should probably just save myself the aggravation, and use the "ignore" feature.
