I think this is a really cool idea. This should be a great concert:)

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

Broadway and country? What a random combination. Those are some big names though, I'd expect ridiculously high price tags on the tickets... at least it's for a good cause.

Oh My!

Sounds like a fun way to blend two genres. Kudos on getting this line-up of performers.

bumping, since I was at this event tonight...

First, Idina was not there- she and Trisha Yearwood were supposed to do "For Good," but for some reason (Rent junket stuff maybe? That's just me guessing, I'm not trying to start any rumours or anything!!) at the last minute Idina wasn't there, so Saycon did "For Good" w/Yearwood instead. Which was perfectly fine with me, since I've never heard Saycon before, and she was/is freakin awesome! I am so glad I got the chance to hear her.

Then, for anyone who read my other thread about how much I wanted to see Ben Vereen as the Wizard before he leaves the show, well, I didn't get to see him as the Wizard, but I did get to see him perform tonight (he did "King of the Road"), and he did not one, but TWO, little soft shoe steps during his piece. And he is just so amazing to listen to live. So that was great. I am on a Vereen high right now.

I don't know that much about country music, but that didn't matter, I really enjoyed the show. The venue it was in was really intimate- about 12 rows of seating or so- so it had an almost small club like feel to it, even while it was in this fancy room at the Jazz at Lincoln Center.

So this was the lineup, with my random comments:
"Standing Outside the Fire," Brian Stokes Mitchell
"This is the Moment," Lee Ann Womack
"On the Street Where You Live," Billy Currington (ok I have no clue who he is, but this guy is HOT! That's my completely shallow comment for the evening.)
"Suddenly Seymour," Carrie Underwood and Patrick Wilson (I've never seen an episode of American Idol, but Underwood either has a really great voice, or that was an incredibly good song choice for her, this was one of the better songs of the night)
"You Say You Will," by Adriane Lenox (Awesome!!)
"My Funny Valentine," by Trace Adkins (ok that just cracks me up even writing it. He did a good job with the song, but watching this talllll guy with long hair in his cowboy hat and jeans crooning this was a little funny. But it was a beautiful rendition.)
"Easy to be Hard," by Julie Roberts
"Sold" by Jason Danieley (this one was second only to James Naughton's later in the evening for most audience applause)
"9 to 5" by Marin Mazzie
"For Good" by Saycon and Trisha Yearwood (and I don't know if it was an accident or on purpose, but I swear that's how she was introduced- just Saycon, no last name)
"King of the Road" by Ben Vereen (Love!)
"You'll Never Walk Alone" Glen Campbell
"Fancy" by Andrea McArdle (she has an awesome voice, I enjoyed this)
"Almost Like Being in Love" by Neal McCoy
"We've Got Tonight" by Renee Elise Goldsberry and Raul Malo
"You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man" by Marian Seldes (this was great- she didn't so much sing the song, as perform a dramatic reading of it. The audience loved- complete laughter)
"Your Eyes" by Richie McDonald (ok this I did not love. I did not like the song choice, and then also it's not that he's not a good singer, he's ok, it's just that whenever I hear his voice I think about that song that Lonestar did, "Amazed," which was soooo overplayed to me (and I don't even really listen to country and I heard it too much!) that his voice just kinda does nothing for me now. Which is sad, as it's a perfectly lovely voice. Is it possible to be burned out on listening to someone's voice? Anyway...)
"I've Been Everywhere" by James Naughton (This was incredible. He got a standing ovation at the end, and not to mention a round of applause after every section where he sings the cities, faster and faster. AND he was good at play-mocking the band for not playing fast enough on those parts. It was great.)
"I Know Him So Well" by Andrea McArdle and Jamie O'Neal (Their voices worked well together, it was nice)
"Long Gone Lonesome Blues" by Patrick Wilson
"Being Alive" by Raul Malo
"Waitin' for the Light to Shine" by Brian Stokes Mitchell and Lee Ann Womack (this one was weird. I get what they were going for, a country song from a Bway show, but it was like Stokes and Womack weren't singing it together, or something. There was something just a little off about it that I can't put my finger on. But after hearing so many other duets during the evening where the two voices worked well together, complimented each other, this song just wasn't...all right.)

Anyway, that's what I have. And I apologize for any spelling errors, I am *exhausted* and wanted to post this before I forgot anything. :)

He is amazing! Oh, I forgot to add- he played his own guitar later in the evening when he did "Long Gone Lonesome Blues, which was such a great number.

But yeah, I didn't expect to like Carrie Underwood that much, since I don't know any of her songs, or anything really except for the fact that she's from American Idol, but I completely loved "Suddenly Seymour," I had chills by the end. Very beautiful.

Nope, Bernadette was not there. I don't think she was supposed to be there for a while now, since (this is just me guessing here), her name wasn't on any of the posters or anything- you know all the stuff that would have had to be printed a while ago? She wasn't listed on any of it.

Yep, Patrick Wilson had his duet, and then his guitar playing solo, he was great! (And yes he is nice to look at, but back to my shallow: have you seen this Billy Currington guy??)

I can't believe I didn't talk about For Good in my first post- Saycon and Trisha were so awesome together! Trisha was spot on, and I loved hearing her voice with the Glinda words, you know what I mean? Very beautiful.

Wooooooooowwww. I would have KILLED to have been there! "Sold" is so much fun! I'm not surprised it got so much applause. Fuuuun. And "Standing Outside The Fire"?! GAH, all of my favourite country songs. I'm glad the concert was so good! re: Broadway Meets Country in November 12 Benefit with Menzel, Peters, Stok

Bernadette's name seemed to be dropped from major advertising shortly after her husband's death. I think she was just committed to making her major appearances (her personal concerts) which I'm sure was difficult enough for her. I'm sure it was somewhat of a disappointment for her as I know she loves country music.

She was scheduled (before her tragedy) to record a new album in November. Does anyone know if that recording has taken place or is still scheduled to take place soon?

Country and Broadway...what could be better? I'd have loved to see Trace singing My Funny Valentine! I saw him just a few months ago at our state fair and he rocked. But seeing him sing that song, which i have Kristin singing, woulda been great! I don't know if i could have listened to anyone else sing Fancy, Reba is one of my favorites, and she did it so well when i saw her live! Billy Currington gets on my nerves, i think it's b/c he did a song with Shania that was annoying and i don't like her. Kinda glad Idina and Bernadette weren't there, b/c i don't feel like i missed anything! I saw them both on stage but that woulda been neat hearin' them sing country!

oh no wickedrose06, Billy Currington is hot, it's not his fault that they made him do whatever with Shania. :)

I don't know what Bernadette was signed up to sing when she was going to do the show, but Idina was only ever signed up to do For Good, she wasn't even going to be doing a country song, so I was really glad I didn't miss anything there with her. And plus I got to hear Saycon!

Trace was great- it was just him and a violin and that song. All, what, he's gotta be like 6'5" at least, of him, sitting on a stool and crooning out My Funny Valentine. Beautiful. Oh- AND he was up in the general seating area after he sang, for I don't know how long, standing in a dark corner and watching part of the show, and the only reason I noticed him was I saw this small commotion going through a row (you know, one person telling the next, telling the next, etc.) and I noticed they were all looking over at the dark corner. No one actually approached him or anything, they all let him watch in peace, but they were all glancing over at him. :)
