This one is pretty straight forward.
Have you/ are you currently, had/am having an obsession with a musical? You know, buy all the memorabilia, listen to the cast album, quote it all the time... Sing so much you annoy people?
I have done this with a few musicals, just wanted to know if there are some other crazy bwwers like that!

re: Broadway Obsessions#3
Posted: 5/11/06 at 11:01pmI always have an obsession about a Broadway show. Broadway takes up a lot of my life, lol. (and what a great one it is) It changes each month. My first one at the age of 3 was Phantom of the Opera Currently, it's Hedwig and the Angry Inch (yes, I am just discovering it, I'm behind sorry...) which really isn't Broadway but off-Broadway but oh well.

I saw POTO when I was nine. My parents bought me the OLC for Christmas that year, and I listned to it every day for the next month.
I also did that for Ragtime
Pretty much everytime I get a new Cast Recording I get a little obsessed with listening to it.

Currently addicted to Hairspray. (Obvious.)
A few months ago it was Spelling Bee.
Back in 2004 it was Avenue Q.
I have to agree with elvenprincess. I always have a "flavor of the month" show that I can't get enough of.

This is pretty weird...but Sweeney Todd for me. I've seen it twice and I'm heading back for Patti LuPone's last show on July 2nd.
See What I Wanna See was definitely another one for me. I saw the show in October and when the OOBCR came out it was playing in a constant loop in my car for weeks.

I'm going through a Footloose obession right now. I don't know why I like it so much but I listen to it constantly.
Also, my school is doing Aida and I always find myself listening to the cd or humming the songs.

I've gone through many of them. It began at age 9 with Les Miserables. Soon after it became Miss Saigon. There was a short period where it was those two and then it picked up again with Chicago, Cabaret, RENT, Wicked, Brooklyn, Hairspreay, Avenue Q, and Sweeney Todd.
I've also become obsessed with Footloose, Grease, and Guys and Dolls. Because my school was supposed to or did put them on.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 11:55amPhantom--I probably drive everyone around me nuts (but it's not just a "current obsession." I've loved it for a while). However, my true favorite musical will always be Damn Yankees.

Into the Woods. For a while I was convinced I needed to seek professional help to get me to stop watching it so much when the DVD came out! (I have only seen it onstage once) I am happy to say that I am doing better these days and have even let several people borrow the DVD for long periods of time. There was a time I wouldn't let it out of my home.

Mine changes every few months. Currently, I am transitioning from Spelling Bee to Tarzan and Wedding Singer (transition-read: not done with Bee but making room for others). Before Bee was All Shook Up. (which I would not be done with had it not closed, and look for renewed interest in the tour!!!)
But Rent, Les Miz, Footloose, J&H, Wicked, and a few others have held my interest.

The year Tommy opened I was 16 and very obsessive. I think I had one of every single piece of merchandise they ever made. I even convinced a rich friend's father who was looking for a pinball table at the time to choose the Tommy one like they had in the lobby. When the show closed I stalked the workers until they gave me a few gobos. I built a full 3D model of the set based on the pictures in the coffee table book. I got autographs from most of the original and touring casts. The day the show closed I made a cake and (being in Utah) sat in my room with the libretto and the CD and followed along as the show ran in NYC.
I have moved on to being a less obsessive person, though if I were still a teenager and had the time on my hands I think I'd use all my time obsessing over The Light in the Piazza.

In general, Sondheim. I go through periods of studying indvidual shows and being absorbed in the scores. So far, I've been interested in ITW, Gypsy, ST,Pacific Overtures, Passion, Sunday in the Park and Assassins. I've only listened to the cast recordings of Company, Forum and Follies.
