My three favorites are all on the same block, on the same side! :)
44th between Broadway & 8th
Carmines--great atmosphere and great food! (Italian, on of my favorites)
John's Pizzeria--great prices, atmosphere, and food!
Sardi's--great atmosphere!

We just ate at a place called Pongsri Thai last week--it was very good, and the prices were reasonable--we had an appetizer and two main dishes and it cost about $29. It's popular, so you have to get there early. It's on 48th between Broadway and 8th.
Last year we ate at Bubba Gump's, which is totally touristy and very expensive, but the food was surprisingly good. If you're a fan of "Forrest Gump," you might have fun there--they have a lot of memorabilia from the movie, a gift shop, etc. The servers quiz you about the movie and were very friendly. That's at Broadway and 44th.

If you're going to Wicked there's an Italian Restaurant right nearby the Gershwin called Thalia. Good food, very convienient.

DaRosina on Restaurant row, I just went back there recently, and it seems they've spruced up at bit, and the food is still quite good for a moderate Italian place.
Another choice, Puleo's Too for the mushroom ravioli.
A bit more pricy, Orso and Foleys Fish House are favorites.
Angus McIndoe's is fine for upscale pub grub, the mix oysters are delicious. I once spotted Neil Simon there.
But my favorite, for breakfast anyway, is still the Edison Cafe. I recommend the bluberry blintzes.
