The nominations are out and Hamilton has 27 nominations including a category just to itself. This makes me very grateful the people don't vote for the Tonys. http://www.broadway.com/buzz/184680/vote-now-hamilton-breaks-record-for-most-broadwaycom-audience-choice-award-nominations/
It's the People's Choice Awards for Broadway.....what more would you expect?
They should change the name of the favorite song category to favorite song from Hamilton.
And nothing for American Psycho? Wow.
Broadway.com is a hot mess anyway. It figures their awards should be too. Did you notice Shuffle Along is in the revival category?
I feel like there are certain people -- like Annaleigh Ashford and Sierra Boggess -- who will always be nominated for the audience choice awards, regardless of the performance they're giving or whom they're up against. I'm guessing because they are actors who have younger fan-bases, and therefore more likely to be on Broadway.com and vote for the awards.
Good lord, worst nominations ever, and of course nothing for American Psycho, everyone who voted in that is 12
I agree, JBroadway, but I also think it has to do with many people not seeing any shows and just voting for their favorite people. From an unbiased point of view, I do think Annaleigh deserves the two awards she was nominated for, and I do think she deserves a Tony nomination for "Sylvia", but if she were to win - which she won't - I would be shocked, and felt it would be undeserved. She gave an incredible performance with some of the best physicality I've seen in ages, but compared to Lupita and Michele this season, it's like she's a new musical up against "Hamilton". There's no way. Anyway, I hate these awards, too, but it always gives me some Annaleigh to look forward to, which is good.
Taye Diggs for best replacement is hilarious to me.
Does anyone else not really see Daveed's performance as "funny"? There are comical moments, but I wouldn't consider Thomas Jefferson or Lafayette as comedic roles...
The Addams Family once won best musical from these things, so...remember that.

I'd say he gets the most laughs in the show other than the King and it's not like he has any emotional moments to balance it out. So yes I'd call it a funny performance.

Yes, I agree with most of what you just said. I definitely think Annaleigh is a general audience favorite, and also that most of the people voting for her probably haven't seen all the other contenders. I didn't see Sylvia (on purpose), so I can't speak directly to the likelihood of her winning this year. Especially, since I was completely dumbfounded that she won last year. So what do I know?
No Benjamin Walker? Wow.

Yes, say what you want about these awards but it's nice that shows/actors who wont get a look in at the Tonys get to feel the love too.

I'm so glad Jennifer Hudson is getting recognition for her BREAKTHROUGH performance. Hopefully The Color Purple will only be the beginning of a successful career for her!

was about to say that. these awards are like a warning.
These awards mean way more to those that vote on them then the recipients, you can be sure

These are just online fan voted awards right? These aren't meant to be serious awards. Why are you guys so angry then? Obviously any fan-voted award will be Hamilton dominated.

I don't know, I'd easily say my 5 favorite new songs from the season are all from Hamilton and I'm sure others would too. Maybe not the 5 listed there though.
Well for my part I'm happy about the well-deserved love the deaf stars of Spring Awakening (along with the other main SA actors) are getting here from fans, especially since the Big Award Shows are not showing the love with all of the fierce competition (and of course shows that are ALL still open)..
