re: Broadway in April

I think that Next to Normal will have a good run after the Tony Awards. I also don't see Little Mermaid or Mary Poppins closing anytime soon.

re: Broadway in April

Spring Awakening had to go. '13' also never had time for word of mouth to get around... opened in a bad time.

re: Broadway in April

I still can't believe that 13 closed so early. I saw it last October and it blew me away. It was intelligent, funny, touching and highly entertaining. JRB constantly proves that a score can be both sophisticated and "catchy". (I've played the CD over and over!) And the kids were phenominal.

Btw - tickets for Next To Normal went on sale today - and I just booked my ticket for May 14, aisle seat in Row D orchestra! Very excited about seeing this!

re: Broadway in April

Am trying to book some tickets on the US ticketmaster site. For some reason, when the "will call at box office" delivery method is chosen, the UK is not one of the options for billing address county. What should I do? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
#80

re: Broadway in April

Hmmm i really don't know. When we bought our tickets last year we just printed out the details and then presented it at the box office to pick up the tickets. Is there an option for you to do that?

#81

re: Broadway in April

That is the "will call at box office" option - kinda like "collect at box office". However, to fill in the billing address for my credit card I cannot put in the UK in the country section re: Broadway in April
#82

re: Broadway in April

Is there an "Other" option?
or "Great Britain"
or "Europe"

I can't remember what option we used.
#83

re: Broadway in April

Wow. I'm a total idiot - Great Britain is on the list!!

re: Broadway in April

Mama, I need your help. I'm about to book for 9 to 5 at the Marquis and can either sit in S108 in the stalls or B118 in the circle. Which view would be preferable? I know you saw it in LA at the Ahmanson but any advice would be great re: Broadway in April

re: Broadway in April

MMMMMMM!
Both are fab
I saw Victor /Victoria twice from round about both those seats.
Its a great theatre with no restricted view but some may see it as a big one -go for the circle ones!
Yep!
If it was me now I'd go for the circle.
I saw it from row D in the circle in LA and it was nothing short of perfect. Similar theatres with LA a bit bigger if i remember!

re: Broadway in April

Just booked my first ever Broadway ticket (of a show that I'll be old enough to remember) - B118 in the dress circle of the Marquis. Big moment for me :)

re: Broadway in April

Well, you guys better book your tickets to see one of Broadway's biggest disasters in some time.
Its new production of 'Guys And dolls' has just opened to some pretty savage reviews that are not gonna help a show that is too often revived anyway!

'uninspired' New York Times
'I was totally underwhelmed' NY Theatre Guide
"flatfooted and dull' NY Daily News
"a joyous perversion' Record
'uneven, charm-challenged' Bloomberg
'theatrical explosions are rare' AP

Bet they are sorry they said no to the Donmar /Piccadilly production now!

The art work speaks loads for this production- yuk!

re: Broadway in April

I'm glad I decided not to include this in my 6 shows in NY in May.

re: Broadway in April

Rumor from a friend in New York in the last hour is that they may take it off this Sunday.

re: Broadway in April

When Cartwright gets the best reviews, you know the show's in trouble. I've got a feeling the production is going to go down in history as how not to do Guys and Dolls. If I have a spare matinee (unlikely but still) I might just go to TKTS and get a ticket.

What intrigues me a little is that the Donmar production is about to open in Sydney as the second leg of what was billed as a "pre-Broadway tour". Maybe they didn't get the memo about the trainwreck version that beat it to NYC?

re: Broadway in April

Do it the National way or not at all!
Simple!

re: Broadway in April

Would you care to shed some light on what made the NT production so legendary? Was it at the Olivier or the Lyttelton?
#93

re: Broadway in April

The staging!
The cast!
Amazing!
The atmosphere in that theatre every night was totally electrifying. I sat it about 20 times and one night even slept outside from 9pm to get tickets for a performance when all seats were £1.
By 6am the line could have filled the Oliver 100 times over and the stars of the show, Julia McKenzie, Bob Hoskins, Julie Covington had set up tables giving away tea and coffee.
It was simply a landmark production.

re: Broadway in April

Sounds like one of those rare times when a production just comes together perfectly. The three names you mentioned would have me camping out in an instant!

Olivier or Lyttelton?

re: Broadway in April

It used very inch of the huge Olivier!
It was a huge production.

re: Broadway in April

Did it use the drum revolve?

The only production I've ever seen at the Olivier was the Hugh Jackman Oklahoma! My whole family came over here in the summer of 1998 and that was my first West End show. All I remember was the big round stage, a cornfield as high as a elephant's eye and being creeped by Jud - Shuler Hensley I believe?

Why did the National's streak of amazing musical revivals end? Guys and Dolls, Carousel, Okalahoma, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Anything Goes and others right?
#97

re: Broadway in April

It was the first and one of the very few productions taht used the entire drum and all the lifts.

re: Broadway in April

Mama, this revival, good or not isn't going anywhere anytime soon... the name will carry it for a while and already has. They're selling to about full capacity.

re: Broadway in April

I'm certainly not wishing it to close but the dice are against it at the moment.
Vile reviews, credit crunch and an annual blizzard.
